Chapter 55
Chapter 55
Under normal circumstances, I would have been a dead man today.
But I wasn’t dead. Those people hadn’t even dared to lay a finger on me.
Song Xiaotian had intimidated every single one of them on his own.
The two of us walked out unscathed, got into the car, and drove away.
I was still shaking, unable to calm down even after we had driven a long distance.
“Brother Tian, weren’t you afraid that man in the suit wouldn’t let us leave?”
“What’s there to be afraid of?”
Song Xiaotian tossed his head. “I’ve been fighting since I was six. I was in group brawls back in elementary school. Why the hell would I be scared of him? If anyone had dared to make a move today, they would’ve been carried out on stretchers to the hospital.”
I suddenly began to idolize him.
In a situation where he was so outnumbered, he had beaten one of them unconscious.
And that group hadn’t dared to say a word.
Song Xiaotian said, “I’m out of gas. Search for a gas station nearby.”
I hurriedly opened my phone to check. There was a station about a kilometer away.
We drove straight there and arrived quickly.
I felt a sudden urge to use the bathroom.
“Damn, you’ve got a weak bladder.”
“I’m going to buy a pack of cigarettes. Get back here as fast as you can. There’s no guarantee those guys won’t call for backup to intercept us.”
After Song Xiaotian gave me the warning, he headed into the gas station convenience store while I went to the restroom.
Once I reached the toilet, I was a bit distracted as I relieved myself.
I was safe for today, but I was afraid those people would come back for revenge later.
I couldn’t be with Song Xiaotian every second of the day; he had his own life to lead.
Just as I finished and was about to pull up my pants, the door to the stall behind me suddenly burst open.
Someone rushed out, grabbed my hair, and slammed my head toward the urinal.
I didn’t have time to react. My head slammed hard against the porcelain, and I instantly lost the ability to resist. I couldn’t even scream; I didn’t even have a chance to call for help.
My first thought was that I was finished. The person who came for me had to be one of Du Ruhai’s men.
He never intended to let me go!
Seeing that I hadn’t passed out yet, the man grabbed my hair and slammed my head against the urinal again.
This time, I was completely out. My vision went black, and I lost consciousness on the spot.
I don’t know how long I was out.
When I woke up, everything was pitch black. I couldn’t see a thing.
Moreover, I was woken up by a throbbing pain in my head. It was so intense that I hissed through my teeth, gasping for air.
Subconsciously, I tried to stretch my limbs, and my hands and feet quickly hit something that felt like wooden boards.
The space was cramped, surrounded by wood on all sides…
My heart skipped a beat. Where the hell was I?
I snapped awake, overcome with panic, and frantically used my hands and feet to feel my surroundings.
Soon, I realized where I was.
I had been locked in a wooden box, and there wasn’t a single sound coming from outside.
I’d been buried alive!
“Help! Help!”
“Let me out!”
I screamed at the top of my lungs. The exertion made my head feel like it was splitting open.
But even after I had been shouting for a long time, there was still no movement outside.
No sound meant that I had already been buried deep.
I hurriedly fumbled through my pockets. I soon found my wallet, but my phone was gone.
It must have been taken away. Without a phone, I had no way to contact the outside world.
Right now, no one knew I was buried, which meant no one was coming to save me.
I’m a dead man!
No wonder that man in the suit was so willing to let me go. No wonder he smirked as I walked away.
He wasn’t afraid of me running at all. They had made all the arrangements long ago; they were dead set on seeing me killed!
Meng Yifan and I had gone to that villa before and learned a great deal about Du Ruhai’s secrets.
I had even visited Du Ruhai’s hometown.
How could he possibly let me live?
He was tying up loose ends!
Lying inside the box, I hammered against the lid incessantly, desperate to push it open and crawl out.
But it was clearly a pipe dream. After struggling for ages, I couldn’t even make the box budge an inch.
I estimated that I had been buried quite deep. The box was covered in wet soil; the combined weight and suction of the damp earth made it impossible to force open with human strength alone.
I fell into despair.
If that man had just killed me outright, it would have been over and done with.
But the bastard actually buried me alive. Before I died, I had to endure this crushing pressure and the slow agony of suffocation, waiting for death in the dark.
The silence and the confinement were driving me insane.
Like a madman, I howled and thrashed inside the box for a long time.
But soon, I stopped struggling. I was already starting to run out of oxygen.
I didn’t know how long I had been unconscious, but judging by my state of hypoxia, it must have been a while. A significant portion of the oxygen in the box had already been consumed.
With what little air remained, I probably had about an hour left.
Once that hour was up, I would suffocate and die.
I hated Du Ruhai with every fiber of my being.
That animal. If he wanted me dead, I had to die; if he wanted me buried alive, he buried me alive.
If I died, I would damn well return as a Vengeful Ghost to find him. I would kill him and get my revenge!
Not just him, but Old Zhao Seven, Li Xiumei, and that bitch Du Yuwei too!
I had to get my revenge on all of them!
Damn it!
Those animals!
An hour passed quickly.
My calculations were correct. I began to suffocate. My head grew foggy from the lack of oxygen, and my consciousness began to drift.
Just as I reached the depths of despair, I suddenly heard the sound of digging. It was coming from above the box.
Using my last shred of lucidity, I strained to listen. I thought I was hallucinating in my final moments.
But soon, I realized it wasn’t a hallucination…
Someone really was digging above me!
Someone was coming to save me!
The person above dug for about ten minutes. By then, I had reached my limit and could no longer hear the digging.
I only heard the sound of the box being pried open, followed by a hand grabbing me.
That hand was smooth, like a woman’s, but I couldn’t open my eyes to see who it was.
She seemed to be struggling, taking a long time to finally drag me out of the box.
I was dumped onto a pile of dirt, and then a bag was tossed in front of me.
With the last of my consciousness, I forced my eyes open with great effort.
Through the blur, I saw a figure from behind.
She was wearing a long black dress, but her shoes seemed to have changed.
My mind was hazy and I couldn’t see clearly, but I knew they weren’t red high heels…
