“This Lv Zhengxian, he’s left-handed.”

The Old Man said, “When he was a kid, I used to tease him, saying he was different from us. He even ate with his left hand, wrote with his left hand.”

I thought to myself, left-handed people are actually smarter than right-handed ones.

Lv Zhengxian was smart enough, otherwise he wouldn’t have transformed from a murderer into a big entrepreneur.

“Does he have any other habits or characteristics?” I asked again.

The Old Man thought for a moment, then shook his head. “I don’t think so. After so many years, who can remember that much? All I know is that this kid still hasn’t been caught, and he doesn’t come back to see his family.”

“I really didn’t expect it. He was quite honest as a child, but grew up to be so vicious…”

I saw the Old Man was about to go off-topic again, so I quickly asked, “Lv Zhengxian committed such a cruel crime back then. The people in your village probably don’t have a good impression of his family, right?”

The Old Man looked at me strangely. “That’s not right. Lv Zhengxian is Lv Zhengxian, his family is his family. We’re all from the same village, we wouldn’t go after his family members.”

“Besides, the person Lv Zhengxian killed wasn’t from our village anyway.”

Song Xiaotian and I exchanged a glance, thinking that the people in this village were pretty reasonable.

But with his next sentence, I understood why they didn’t target Lv Zhengxian’s family.

“Also, that entrepreneur who comes to our village for poverty alleviation, every time he comes, he stays in our village for two or three days, always staying at Lv Jun’s house. They’re on very good terms. The village officials treat Lv Jun’s family like their own parents.”

“That entrepreneur gets along well with Lv Jun, they’re friends.”

For some reason, I wanted to laugh.

I asked him again, “Have you ever spoken to this entrepreneur? Do you find him approachable?”

The Old Man shook his head. “I’ve never spoken to him. After all, he’s a big boss, not the same as us. He’s worth billions. We’re just grateful for his kindness; whether we talk to him or not doesn’t matter.”

“But I can tell he really likes our village.”

I asked again, “What’s this entrepreneur’s name? I’ll help spread the word about his good deeds.”

The Old Man: “His surname is Du, Du Ruhai.”

After chatting with the Old Man, we asked for directions to Lv Jun’s house, and Song Xiaotian and I prepared to head there directly.

On the way, I was curious: “Does Lv Jun know that Du Ruhai is actually his son, Lv Zhengxian?”

Song Xiaotian: “Maybe he knows, maybe he doesn’t.”

I said, “That’s not saying anything at all…”

Song Xiaotian: “Someone like Lv Zhengxian, as we police say, is a born criminal-smart, cunning, and ruthless. I don’t think he’d reveal his secrets to his father, even if that’s his dad.”

“He only trusts himself. But whether his father can figure out that Du Ruhai is actually his son Lv Zhengxian from some of his habits, that’s hard to say.”

“Besides, even if you find all sorts of evidence to prove that Du Ruhai is Lv Zhengxian, you still can’t bring him down.”

Song Xiaotian looked at me. “If you hand that evidence to the police or a judge and say Lv Zhengxian performed Soul Seizure on Du Ruhai, do you think they’d believe you?”

I sighed, suddenly feeling that this whole trip was a waste.

Even if I uncover all the truth, so what?

If I can’t bring down Du Ruhai, these truths only satisfy my curiosity and answer my doubts. Other than that, the truth is useless.

So here’s the question: how can I bring down Du Ruhai?

I wouldn’t even dare to dream about that.

By now, we had reached the vicinity of Lv Jun’s house. From a distance, we could see it was lively-maybe relatives, maybe village officials.

Just as the Old Man said, with the apparent relationship between Lv Jun and Du Ruhai, the village officials treated the Lv family like royalty.

If we went over now, it would be pointless. We wouldn’t get any answers and might even arouse suspicion about our identities.

That would alert Du Ruhai.

“Let’s go.”

Song Xiaotian pulled me, ready to leave. “We’ve learned what we needed to. There’s no need to question Lv Jun. Even if he admits that Du Ruhai is Lv Zhengxian, it doesn’t matter.”

I nodded and left with Song Xiaotian.

We just took a stroll around Lvjiagou and returned to the town.

We didn’t stay long in town. After a few hours on the bus, we returned to the city, then headed to the airport to prepare to return to Lanjiang City.

By the time we got back to Lanjiang City, it was almost dark.

As soon as we got off the plane, Song Xiaotian received a call.

I didn’t know who was calling, but after he answered, his face looked a bit grim.

“Chen Mo, is your friend named Meng Yifan?” he asked me.

I quickly nodded. “What’s wrong, Brother Tian? Is there any news?”

Song Xiaotian sighed and scratched his head. Seeing him do that, my heart sank.

“The old man who was caught with your friend, his surname is Zhao, right?” Song Xiaotian confirmed again.

Cold sweat broke out on my forehead. I nodded quickly. “What happened, Brother? Can’t you get them out?”

Song Xiaotian said, “That Old Man Zhao, he was caught with Meng Yifan that night, but was released the next morning. And he ratted you out, saying it was your idea to go to Du Ruhai’s house to steal things.”

What!

My eyes widened, as if struck by lightning.

Seventh Master was released the next day? And he ratted me out?

“How is that possible!”

“How the hell is it not possible.”

Song Xiaotian was a bit annoyed too. “My contacts checked everything. Originally, they could have worked it out and gotten your friend out, but who knew that old man confessed and ratted you out. Now it’s tricky, and maybe we can’t get him out.”

“The police are still looking for you. You might get arrested too…”

I almost fainted.

I went out for a trip and came back only to be betrayed.

Am I going to jail too?

What’s with that old man? How could someone his age have no sense of honor at all!
