chapter 4
At two o’clock in the morning, I actually walked out of the master bedroom again, but I had absolutely no memory of it. From the video footage, I could see that I walked out with my eyes closed.
I walked from the master bedroom to the living room, sat on the sofa like a puppet, picked up the remote control, and turned on the TV.
The sound from the TV didn’t make me open my eyes, and I just sat there with my eyes closed, ‘watching’ TV until four in the morning.
At four o’clock, I suddenly collapsed onto the sofa, sprawled out as if I had fallen asleep.
It wasn’t until five o’clock that I suddenly woke up in shock from the sofa, grabbed my phone, and ran out of the house.
From beginning to end, there was never any Concrete Shoe Print on the surveillance footage.
After watching the footage, I was completely stunned, squatting there until my legs went numb, not moving at all.
I actually… I really sleepwalked, and from start to finish, the Concrete Shoe Print never existed…
“Are you under too much work pressure lately…”
Meng Yifan swallowed hard, looking at me with a strange expression.
But he wasn’t scared by anything else-he was scared by me.
“How about I give you a week off? Go out, relax, and come back after you’ve cleared your mind…”
“Or when it’s light out, let’s go to the hospital and have a check…”
I scratched my scalp hard and said to Meng Yifan very seriously, “I don’t know when I started sleepwalking, but I swear to you, I really saw the Concrete Shoe Print, made by high heels. I don’t understand why the surveillance didn’t catch it…”
Meng Yifan clearly didn’t believe me. He always thought I was just under too much work pressure and was hallucinating.
“How about this, we told the landlord we’d stay two nights. Tonight, I’ll come and sleep here with you.”
“If you can see the Concrete Shoe Print, then I definitely can too, right?”
Meng Yifan really is my best buddy, always looking out for my feelings.
I nodded and didn’t refuse.
Even though I was already feeling resistant to this house, I wanted to prove that I really saw the Concrete Shoe Print. Otherwise, I’d have to admit I should go see a psychiatrist.
By the time we finished watching the surveillance, it was already broad daylight. Meng Yifan and I left for the time being.
After breakfast outside, I went back to work at the shop as usual.
But all day, I was absent-minded.
I kept thinking, why did the Concrete Shoe Print disappear into thin air?
And why did I suddenly start sleepwalking?
At eight o’clock that night, Meng Yifan and I made plans and returned to that house together.
We bought some late-night snacks and beer, and sat in the master bedroom eating and chatting.
We talked about a lot, everything from childhood to now.
Actually, we’re not just childhood friends-our fathers and grandfathers all knew each other too. We’re family friends, so we’re as close as brothers.
“Neither of us should sleep tonight. I want to see what weird things might happen.”
Meng Yifan was very cocky: “Don’t say I don’t believe in all that supernatural stuff. Even if there’s really a ghost, I, Meng, will make it die again!”
Half an hour later.
We both got drunk and collapsed on the **, falling asleep.
Because the sleep quality was so good, we both slept like the dead.
But I clearly felt I hadn’t slept long when, in a daze, I heard knocking at the door again.
This time, I didn’t stay in bed. I was so scared I sat up straight from the ** and hurriedly shook Meng Yifan, who was sleeping like a pig.
“Wake up! Someone’s knocking on the door!”
Meng Yifan climbed up from the **, annoyed, cursing: “Who the hell is knocking in the middle of the night? Must be drunk!”
I quickly grabbed the phone from the ** and checked it.
It was midnight again…
A chill instantly crawled up my back. I froze, glancing toward the door.
Damn it!
Could it be someone looking for Li Xiumei again?
