chapter 35
Du Yuwei’s corpse really did open its eyes just now.
I even made eye contact with her for a few seconds.
But it was only those few seconds-she closed her eyes again.
It was as if she was consciously opening and closing her eyes.
Meng Yifan was so frightened by me that he hurriedly looked at Du Yuwei’s corpse.
“She didn’t open her eyes. Where did you see her open her eyes?”
“Did you see it wrong?”
Seventh Master also questioned me.
I couldn’t speak for a moment, and after a while I managed to say, “She really did open her eyes just now. I definitely didn’t see it wrong, but she opened them and then closed them again!”
Seventh Master stared hard at Du Yuwei’s corpse, his brows furrowing.
Meng Yifan said in a trembling voice, “Seventh Master… Is there something wrong with her corpse? Has she already undergone Zombification?”
Seventh Master shook his head. “She’s already become a Ghost, which means that last breath has already left her body. It’s impossible for Zombification to happen now-the chance of Zombification is even lower than the chance of becoming a Vengeful Ghost.”
“If she really did open her eyes just now, it must have been her Ghost sensing our presence.”
I was a little scared. “She’s inside this villa?”
Seventh Master: “No. If she were here, I would have sensed it as soon as I entered. There’s just a heavy Yin energy here. Don’t get too close to her corpse, or she’ll open her eyes again.”
Meng Yifan didn’t quite believe it, and insisted on going over to check.
As soon as he walked over, within ten steps of the corpse, the previously tightly shut eyes suddenly opened again.
The corpse looked almost alive, its eyes glaring at us.
If that face were normal, even just the face of a regular dead person, I wouldn’t have been so frightened.
But that face looked poisoned, and when those eyes glared, I nearly fainted from fright.
Meng Yifan also screamed in terror and quickly backed away.
Seventh Master glared at him fiercely. “Is this fun? We’re here to do serious business!”
Then, we continued searching for Du Yuwei’s Birth Date and Time.
Honestly, I didn’t have much hope-just wanted some psychological comfort.
But unexpectedly, I really did find it.
It was a marriage certificate, and on it were not only Du Yuwei’s Birth Date and Time, but also Du Ruhai’s.
At that moment, I couldn’t hide my excitement and shouted to Seventh Master and the others.
“I found it!”
The contents of the marriage certificate gave me goosebumps.
“One paper marriage certificate, presented to the Heavenly Court above, reported to the Underworld below, submitted to the Nine Heavens, witnessed by All Gods and Buddhas. If the groom betrays the bride, it is a crime against Heaven. For the crime of deceiving Heaven, the body dies, the soul perishes, and there is no reincarnation forever.”
Every word was full of love, truly making one sigh at the groom’s sincerity.
But when I thought about who the groom was, I felt the marriage certificate was a bit twisted.
“Look,
Maybe this is why Meng Yifan and I are destined to survive.
Fate decreed we would live, so I was able to find this marriage certificate.
“Now it’s good, the two of us don’t have to die!”
Meng Yifan was also excited. “Now that we have the Birth Date and Time, we can perform Exorcism for Du Yuwei, then tell Li Xiumei where Lv Zhengxian is. That’ll settle everything.”
I asked Seventh Master, now that we have Du Yuwei’s Birth Date and Time, we should be able to perform Exorcism, right?
I had to confirm with him again.
Seventh Master said, “It seems you two really are destined to survive. Now, as long as we take Du Yuwei’s corpse away, find a place to burn it, and I use her Birth Date and Time to perform Exorcism, she won’t be able to bother you anymore…”
Hearing Seventh Master’s words, I breathed a sigh of relief.
But before he finished speaking, a shadow suddenly appeared on the opposite wall…
The figure was stretched long by the candlelight, quickly catching my attention.
Suddenly, a detail flashed through my mind-a detail we should have noticed as soon as we entered.
If Du Ruhai wasn’t home, then why was there a candle burning in this room?
Who lit the candle?
“Watch out!”
I shouted, and kicked Meng Yifan, who was right beside me.
My kick landed squarely, knocking both Meng Yifan and Seventh Master to the ground.
A large machete swung down, nearly grazing my nose-I could even feel the cold steel of the blade.
I was scared out of my wits, falling to the floor and scrambling backwards, putting distance between myself and the man with the knife.
Only then did I get a good look at his face-a man in his thirties, fierce-looking, muscles bulging.
But he wasn’t Du Ruhai. He was probably someone Du Ruhai had stationed here, likely hiding in the attic just moments ago.
His eyes glinted with malice; he clearly didn’t intend to let us go easily. He raised the knife and came at me again.
I was forced into a corner, with nowhere to escape.
Luckily, at the critical moment, Meng Yifan charged forward, grabbing the man around the waist from behind and slamming him to the ground.
If an ordinary person took a hit like that, they’d be lucky not to break a bone, let alone get back up.
But this man was clearly no ordinary person-he must have trained. He braced himself with his hands, absorbing some of the impact, and almost simultaneously clamped Meng Yifan’s head between his legs, instantly reversing the situation and pinning Meng Yifan beneath him.
He picked up the knife from the floor, aiming to chop down on Meng Yifan’s head.
If that blade came down, Meng Yifan would be done for.
I didn’t hesitate. I grabbed a nearby chair, ready to smash it over him.
But before I could throw my chair, another chair flew at him first.
It was Seventh Master who threw it, hitting the man squarely. As the man raised his arm to block, Seventh Master moved like lightning, darting over and hooking his arm around the man’s neck, pulling him off Meng Yifan.
Seventh Master was from Northeast-I’d never seen an Old Man so tall and imposing.
I’d always thought he was just a bit hot-tempered, but I never expected him to be so skilled.
He wasn’t just fighting; he was trading moves with the man.
After a few exchanges, the man hadn’t gained any advantage. He shot us a glance, then suddenly bolted out of the room.
But not long after he ran out, the whole villa erupted in alarm-the kind that blared so loudly the entire neighborhood could hear it.
“Damn! He triggered the security system!”
Seventh Master’s face changed drastically: “We have to go, now! If we get caught, we’ll end up in jail!”
Meng Yifan and I were reluctant, pointing at Du Yuwei’s body: “What about her? We won’t get another chance.”
Seventh Master cursed: “Forget it! If you go to jail, you’ll never get another chance! Move! Take those Ashes Urns!”
I rushed over and stuffed the two Ashes Urns into my backpack, not caring about Du Yuwei’s body anymore. If we tried to take her body, we wouldn’t get far.
We dashed downstairs, not caring about anything else-no matter what, we couldn’t get caught.
But as soon as we climbed over the villa’s wall, we saw more than a dozen security guards standing outside, all holding electric batons.
Seeing so many people surrounding us made my scalp tingle.
It seemed they’d known we were inside all along-they’d been waiting for us here, premeditated.
