Hard work pays off.

We finally found information about the girl who knocked on the door.

But what we discovered shocked us to the core.

She turned out to be the adopted daughter of Du Ruhai!

Who is Du Ruhai?

At least in Lanjiang City, there’s no one who doesn’t know his name.

From luxury villas to some cheap apartment buildings in Lanjiang City, all were built by him.

I remember at an industry exchange event one year, I saw Du Ruhai from afar.

People at our level could never talk to someone like him. Just catching a distant glimpse was like seeing a superstar.

“Could we have made a mistake…”

Meng Yifan even stubbed out his cigarette and said, “If this Du Yuwei is the girl who knocked on the door, wasn’t she adopted by Lv Zhengxian? Could Du Ruhai actually be Lv Zhengxian?”

“That’s nonsense!”

I thought it was nonsense too.

A murderer suddenly turning into a big entrepreneur? That’s just too absurd.

But if Du Ruhai isn’t Lv Zhengxian, then why did Du Yuwei become Du Ruhai’s adopted daughter?

I really couldn’t figure it out.

Brother Liu looked at us curiously and asked, “What are you talking about? Du Ruhai is Lv Zhengxian?”

Meng Yifan pointed at the file and said, “We’ve encountered two ghosts. This Du Yuwei is one of them. After she became a ghost…”

“I don’t want to hear it!” Brother Liu hurriedly covered his ears and even moved his chair away: “You two talk among yourselves, just don’t let me hear it.”

He went on eating and ignored us.

People who truly believe in these things always keep their distance, because they know that once you get involved with that stuff, no one can save you-not even the police can get you justice if you die.

So Meng Yifan and I could only discuss things between ourselves.

Based on the information we had, we could already confirm that the girl who knocked on the door was the sole survivor of the Massacre Case fifteen years ago, and that she was adopted by Lv Zhengxian and Li Xiumei.

Now, from this file, we had learned the identity of the girl who knocked on the door: her name was Du Yuwei.

But what we couldn’t explain was why she later became the adopted daughter of the big entrepreneur Du Ruhai.

Logically, either Du Ruhai is Lv Zhengxian, or Lv Zhengxian transferred Du Yuwei’s guardianship to Du Ruhai, so that’s how Du Yuwei became Du Ruhai’s adopted daughter.

I felt there could only be these two explanations.

“This is bizarre.”

Meng Yifan looked puzzled: “This Lv Zhengxian was even willing to kill Li Xiumei to keep Du Yuwei’s secret, but he’d actually give Du Yuwei to someone else?”

Lv Zhengxian’s way of thinking was truly beyond ordinary comprehension.

I asked Brother Liu, “Brother Liu, let’s change the subject. About this Du Yuwei… how did she die? Why do all the other files have detailed explanations, but hers just says ‘car accident’? What exactly happened in her car accident?”

Brother Liu put down his chopsticks and said, “Don’t forget who her father is-Du Ruhai. Boss Du was already devastated by his daughter’s death, and the circumstances of her death… weren’t exactly honorable. With a wave of his hand, anything that needed to be covered up was covered up, and any information that needed to be erased was erased.”

Meng Yifan and I were both startled. It seemed that Du Yuwei’s death wasn’t as simple as a car accident-there was more to the story.

“So what exactly was dishonorable about it?”

“I can tell you, but you can’t spread it around.”

Brother Liu was very cautious: “Because this matter affects Du Ruhai’s reputation. I’m not afraid of a million things, just that one in a million. If he finds out I leaked this, I might be out of a job tomorrow.”

We both nodded quickly-no one could keep a secret better than us.
“This Du Ruhai’s daughter, that is, Du Yuwei, she got into a fight with another girl. And what was it for? It was over a relationship issue-in blunt terms, a love triangle.”

“Two women fell for the same man, and Du Yuwei was the third party. She wanted the other girl to give up her boyfriend to her, but come on, who would ever agree to that?”

“Du Yuwei wouldn’t let it go. She even brought a few girls to ambush the other one and gave her a beating. I heard from my friend that she traumatized the girl.”

“The girl was so scared at the time that she ran away. As she ran, Du Yuwei chased after her. And while chasing, a car came by…”

Meng Yifan and I were both stunned as we listened.

A third party? Stealing someone’s boyfriend and then beating her up?

Damn!

Is this something a normal person would do?

“So, she was hit by that car?” Meng Yifan’s eyes widened.

Brother Liu nodded. “I heard she died on the spot. But honestly, she really kind of des-”

Halfway through, Brother Liu suddenly swallowed his words, probably remembering that Du Yuwei had already become a ghost.

He quickly put his palms together, bowed in all directions, and kept muttering apologies.

“This is just what my friend told me. He was the one handling the case back then.”

Brother Liu continued, “Later, Du Ruhai came. He silenced whoever needed silencing and erased whatever information needed erasing. Otherwise, just the fact that Du Yuwei bullied someone would have blown up on the internet these days.”

“If this got out, it wouldn’t ruin Du Ruhai, but it would definitely affect his and his group’s reputation.”

I thought to myself, Du Yuwei really isn’t a good person.

I wondered if she turned out this way because she was influenced by Lv Zhengxian and Li Xiumei when she was a child.

“Brother Liu, do you know where Du Yuwei’s remains are buried?” I asked again.

His face suddenly changed dramatically. “How would I know that? I’m not helping you look into this. I’m full, I’m going back to work. Don’t come to me about this!”

With that, he slipped away.

Looks like he’s really afraid of ghosts-so much so that he’s like this.

Meng Yifan and I discussed it. Now that Du Yuwei has inexplicably become Du Ruhai’s adopted daughter, things might be tricky.

We decided to talk to Seventh Master first and ask for his opinion.

I immediately called Seventh Master.

On the phone, he said he had already been discharged from the hospital-he couldn’t get used to staying there.

Originally, Meng Yifan and I were covering the medical expenses for him and Xiao Qing, but Xiao Qing was discharged too. She said there was no need for her to stay in the hospital, and she didn’t want us to waste money.

Xiao Qing really is a good person, just unlucky.

I didn’t say much else on the phone and quickly told Seventh Master about Du Yuwei.

Actually, what I wanted to ask was whether Du Yuwei’s adoptive father, Du Ruhai, could possibly be Lv Zhengxian.

But that didn’t seem to be what Seventh Master was focused on.

His tone suddenly became a bit serious. “Are you sure Du Yuwei died three months ago?”

I said I was sure-there’s no way that information could be wrong.

“Then there’s a problem.”

Seventh Master’s tone grew even more serious. “Even though she died a violent death, she shouldn’t have become a Fierce Ghost. It’s only been three months-how could she already be out scaring people?”

I didn’t quite understand what Seventh Master meant, so I quickly asked him to explain.

“Let me put it this way.”

“In her situation, if she doesn’t go where she’s supposed to, at most she’d be a Wandering Ghost-she wouldn’t have the ability to harm people.”

“Unless someone is doing Ghost Rearing…”
