By the time I got home from the office, it was already 9:00 PM.

Qi Mo wasn’t back yet.

He had a dinner meeting today-a very important one. He and several people from the business department had all gone.

Under these circumstances, it was impossible for me to call or message him.

I could only wait.

That’s how it is for adults; even when you want to lose your temper, you have to find the right moment.

But I’m not exactly a patient person.

Keeping things bottled up? Not a chance.

So, regarding Xia Qing, the ex-girlfriend, the fresh start, and the wedding photos-he had to give me an explanation.

Qi Mo didn’t get back until 1:30 AM.

Seeing me sitting on the sofa, he jumped. “Why are you still up? Didn’t I tell you not to wait for me?”

Looking at his exhausted face, I asked, “Are you tired?”

He stepped forward and pulled me into a hug, nuzzling my neck like a koala.

“I’m exhausted,” he said. “Let me recharge my batteries.”

I pushed his head away. “Go take a shower and wake yourself up. Then we need to talk.”

Qi Mo looked at me. “What’s wrong? Honey, don’t scare me.”

I said, “Go take a shower first.”

Qi Mo didn’t budge. He asked, “Honey, did I do something wrong?”

I thought I was being calm enough.

But seeing Qi Mo, I still couldn’t stop my whole body from shaking. Even my voice trembled when I spoke.

I knew I needed to keep my cool.

I gave him a push. “Go on. We’ll talk in a bit.”

Qi Mo’s expression wasn’t great, but he headed to the bathroom anyway.

He once told me that the four words he feared hearing most from me were: “We need to talk.”

He said that every time I said those words, I sounded like a stern teacher.

And he was the student who had made a mistake, standing there at a total loss.

He said, “Whenever that happens, I feel like you’re going to leave me.”

At the time, I had laughed and asked how that was even possible.

But I knew his intuition was right.

I’m a rational person, and I’m afraid of getting hurt.

If I encounter any threat to my relationship, my subconscious reaction is to run away.

However, my logic tells me that before I flee, I must first get to the bottom of things.

I don’t like things ending without closure.

Even if I leave, I want it to be clear and well-defined.

Qi Mo’s shower lasted ten minutes.

By the time he sat down in front of me, his entire body was tense.

And my patience had reached its limit.

I handed him my phone.

On the screen were the photos I had taken of his chat history with Xia Qing.

I said, “Qi Mo, for the sake of the two years we’ve known each other and how long we’ve been together, tell me the truth. Don’t lie to me.”

Qi Mo looked down at the phone.

A second later, his head snapped up to look at me.

His eyes were trembling, and he was spiraling into a state of sheer panic.

He said, “Honey, let me explain. It’s not what it looks like.”
