Chapter 4

An idea struck me. Holding the Heaven and Earth Mirror, I walked into the courtyard, set it down beside me, then bent over and picked up a chamber pot.

Star Lord of Fate: “You know, Yunyao may have become mortal, but she’s still as narcissistic as ever. Wherever she goes, she has to look in a mirror.”

Star Lord Chonghua: “Exactly. I once told her I liked her, and guess what she said?”

“Yunyao rolled her eyes at me and said, ‘Same. I like myself so much too.’ She nearly drove me insane.”

“What? Star Lord Chonghua likes High Immortal Yunyao too? When did this happen? How come none of us knew?”

The words in the Heaven and Earth Mirror flew by at lightning speed. I gave a soft cough, then opened the chamber pot lid in an affected, theatrical manner and cupped my own face.

“Damn it. How can I look this beautiful even while scrubbing chamber pots?”

Once I had everyone’s attention, I gave a wicked little smile, reached out, and tossed the Heaven and Earth Mirror into the chamber pot.

“Aaaah-my eyes! My eyes! Shit splashed onto my face!”

“Stop talking. I’m eating a flat peach right now. Ugh-”

Every immortal who had been peeping was thoroughly disgusted. I let the Heaven and Earth Mirror soak in the chamber pot for ages, and only after I finished my work did I fetch a bucket of water and rinse it clean.

I set it aside to dry, then went to find Aunt Gui, the steward in charge, to ask for lunch.

“Aunt Gui, I’m done scrubbing the chamber pots.”

“Heh. Who do you think you’re fooling? With that many chamber pots, you- Huh? Well, I didn’t expect that. You’re actually quick with your hands.”

Aunt Gui’s eyes darted.

“How about this? The capable should do more. Go scrub the ones on the other side too.”

There was still a small pile left nearby, just a dozen or so. It looked like some other palace maid’s work, but with so few, I couldn’t be bothered to argue.

“Fine.”

I quickly finished scrubbing that small pile of chamber pots. Soon it was lunchtime. A palace maid brought over a food box. The Xinzheku’s ration was two vegetable dishes and a serving of plain rice.

After working all morning, I was starving. I shoveled down my own food in a few bites, then walked over to Aunt Gui, crouched in front of her, stuck my chopsticks into her bowl, and picked up a big chicken drumstick.

Aunt Gui was dumbfounded.

“What are you doing?”

“Didn’t you say the capable should do more? I have a big appetite, so I’m helping you share a little more of the burden.”

I snatched every meat dish she hadn’t touched. Aunt Gui’s face turned blue with rage. She set her food box aside and immediately launched into a tirade.

“You lowly little hussy, you dare play tricks in front of your grandaunt? I’ll beep-beep-” profanity censored, “beep beep beep beep-“
