As a conscientious security guard who never slacked off, Yu Lingling naturally couldn’t damage or remove anything from a resident’s home, much less kill a resident.
But Yu Lingling was only an unpaid security guard. It was perfectly reasonable for her to be unable to defeat the creatures that broke in to rob and murder residents, wasn’t it?
If even those powerful residents couldn’t defeat them, how could a mere rookie security guard like her possibly stand a chance?
As for the claim that she had brought in the creatures committing the home invasions and murders…
Who could prove it?
The burden of proof lay with the accuser. They could present evidence first – or live long enough to make it to the end of the instance.
After entering the apartment, Yu Lingling genuinely didn’t lift a finger. She merely stood in the corner, perfectly embodying the all-talk, no-action nature of a security guard. “Stop fighting. Don’t kill anyone. Hey, resident, calm down. What’s wrong, resident? Are you about to attack a conscientious security guard?”
By the final question, Yu Lingling could barely contain the excitement in her voice.
The words were different, but her peculiar tone was exactly the same as that of the first creature that had tried to enter the complex.
“The streamer’s tone is so creepy.”
“This rookie really knows how to hold a grudge. She’s deliberately imitating the first creature she took out. Of course she sounds creepy!”
“Other than the words, her tone and intonation are exactly the same. She’s not vindictive – she’s a copycat.”
“She copied a creature, not a person. Still, I wouldn’t be surprised if she disguised herself as one next time.”
“Once she clears this instance, she’ll become a Full-fledged Player, right?”
“I’ll send her a tip then. This is so satisfying.”
“It’s so much better here. Watching the other rookies makes me want to cry over how stupid they are.”
“Who comes here just to watch rookies? Aren’t we all here for entertainment? What’s the point in watching that kind of thing?”

“Why the hell not? Why won’t that creature tear her apart? Tear her apart!”
Now that the Livestream Room had more viewers, all kinds of people had appeared. Some had spent so long trembling in fear inside Horror Game Instances that they enjoyed visiting rookie streams to feel superior, reassure themselves that they mattered, and boost their confidence.
The resident creature glared viciously at Yu Lingling, but ultimately didn’t dare violate the rules of the Horror Game Instance.
It seemed the rules of a Horror Game Instance were even more terrifying than death.
Or perhaps death didn’t mean these creatures truly ceased to exist?
Yu Lingling pressed the tip of her tongue against one of her small fangs. After dealing with one household, she went to knock on the second resident’s door.
Her knocking sounded like a harbinger of death.
As for homes with unlit lanterns, if a creature that didn’t live in the complex entered one, Yu Lingling had the right, as a security guard, to go inside and evict the intruder.
But if an unoccupied home had no outside creature inside, then as a security guard, Yu Lingling couldn’t simply barge in.
Yu Lingling found that rather unfortunate. She even felt the tiniest hint of regret. “I shouldn’t have slacked off.”
She should have let every creature inside, then killed them one by one.
Ever since entering this instance, Yu Lingling had possessed an instinctive certainty that it posed no threat to her whatsoever. She didn’t know how anyone else was supposed to clear it, but she had her own ideas and her own pace.
Besides, Yu Lingling knew perfectly well that she needed an outlet.
Since she couldn’t vent her emotions in the real world, she might as well destroy the world within the Horror Game Instance.
If Horror Game Instances had never existed, she and her brother could have continued living like ordinary people.
Yu Lingling worked her way down the apartment building from the thirteenth floor to the first. When she emerged, she left behind the doll dressed in a tiny suit, with naturally curly hair.
At the entrance to the second apartment building stood another doll, dressed head to toe in denim. Despite it being nighttime, it wore sunglasses. It followed Yu Lingling toward the elevator, secretly trying to step on her shadow from behind.
He might not be able to beat Yu Lingling, but couldn’t he at least step on her shadow and bring her some bad luck?
Yu Lingling clicked her tongue, feeling that sooner or later, she would have to teach the Four Dolls a lesson. “Have you finished the elementary school curriculum? Don’t make me play online classes for you on a twenty-four-hour loop.”
The little doll in sunglasses quickly withdrew his foot. With both hands clasped behind his back, he looked around and pretended nothing had happened.
When the elevator reached the thirteenth floor, he charged into a family of anomalies’ home before Yu Lingling could even knock. He vented all his frustration on the anomalies inside. He would eat more anomalies and grow stronger, then smash every computer Yu Lingling owned so she could never force them to study again.
The commotion in this apartment block was even worse. He punched straight through the floor, saving Yu Lingling and the others the trouble of going downstairs to knock on doors. They could simply drop straight through.
As if he had discovered a convenient shortcut, the little doll in sunglasses began demolishing the apartment block by brute force.
Yu Lingling only stopped him when she was certain the unit below was genuinely vacant. The rest of the time, she stood by and watched him tear the place apart like a husky left alone at home.
By the time Yu Lingling and the others reached the first floor, the little doll in sunglasses let out a satisfied burp, while the apartment block behind them looked ready to collapse.
Standing at the entrance of the final apartment block was a little doll in a hoodie and sweatpants. When she saw Yu Lingling, she even waved politely in greeting.
After taking her along to clear out the apartment block, Yu Lingling did not return to the main gate immediately. Instead, she led the three dolls on patrol. Only after confirming that not a single anomaly had slipped through their jaws did she saunter back to the gate like an old man out for a stroll.
The moment the doll in the poofy dress saw the other three, she hurried over and sniffed them. They promptly stuffed her mouth with anomaly hearts – the part known as the Heart Core. Only then did she happily bounce back to the gate and squat there like a little guard dog, staring at the anomalies outside that were about to become food.
Yu Lingling had no idea how long this dungeon would last, but she sighed with some regret. “There aren’t many property owners left in the complex. We’d better hurry.”
The faces of the anomalies outside the complex twisted.
Hurry to do what? Hurry up and get killed?
Yu Lingling announced, “I’ve patrolled the entire complex. There are no dangerous individuals left. All property owners may now return home.”

An anomaly who had been lucky enough to survive a little longer approached, trembling all over. “I-I’m a property owner.”
Yu Lingling asked, “How are you going to prove you’re a property owner? You can’t prove it? Then you must be a fake.”
The anomaly died full of resentment. Did she think being an anomaly made him easy to fool?
Two places before him, an anomaly had proved he was a property owner, only for this damned outsider to insist he was an impostor.
The one before him had outright admitted to impersonating a property owner, and she’d immediately ripped out his heart and killed him, claiming that anyone impersonating an owner had sinister intentions and that she had a duty to protect the complex.
Everyone said ghosts did nothing but lie, but not a single honest word came out of these outsiders’ mouths either.

At the familiar System announcement, Yu Lingling still felt it was a bit of a shame. She glanced at the Four Dolls’ round, bulging bellies and clicked her tongue. “You guys aren’t very impressive.”
Having eaten too much to digest it all at once, the Four Dolls glared at her before returning to the Princess Dollhouse.
