Chapter 4
Chapter 4
“Are you out of your damn mind?! What, do you have meningitis?!”
I let loose a string of curses. Lu Lingzhu clutched her stomach and laughed like a maniac, and the mummy beside her burst out laughing too, pounding the floor as she cackled like an old hen greeting the sunrise.
Lu Lingzhu and Song Feifei. These two psychos!
Lu Lingzhu was my friend, a proper Maoshan Disciple. Song Feifei was her female apprentice.
I honestly could not understand how anyone could be this bored. They had nothing better to do after stuffing themselves full, so they flew all the way to Egypt to pretend to be mummies and scare me?
“Qiao Moyu, you’re disgusting. If you can’t win a fight, why are you spitting at people? Hahaha-hahahahaha-Jiang Haoyan’s face just now nearly killed me!”
Lu Lingzhu laughed wildly as she leaned her face against my shoulder, wiping the spit from earlier onto my clothes.
A large black stain appeared on my spotless white T-shirt, and I got even angrier. I half-kneeled, pressed one hand onto Lu Lingzhu’s shoulder, and used the other to wrap the bandages back around her face.
“Wrapping other people up wasn’t enough, huh? Now you’re wrapping yourself too.
“If you love wrapping things so much, were you a cabbage in your last life?”
Lu Lingzhu laughed even harder. Even after I finished winding the bandages around her again, she was still laughing.
I rolled my eyes and asked irritably, “What are you two doing here?”
“Mike is my senior from school. After he told me about what happened here that day, Lingzhu and I came over.
“We’ve checked this museum from top to bottom several times, but there isn’t the slightest trace of Evil Energy. We really couldn’t figure anything out. When Mike saw that we couldn’t solve it, he said he’d invited another master. Who would’ve thought it would be you? Hahahaha-”
Song Feifei was still laughing. When she saw Jiang Haoyan’s and my dark expressions, she quickly pointed at Lu Lingzhu.
“This was all Lu Lingzhu’s idea. It had nothing to do with me.”
Lu Lingzhu said, “Treacherous disciple!”
“All right, enough messing around.
“You’ve been here for so long. Have you figured anything out? What’s going on with that disappearing glass?”
I pointed at the display case Lu Lingzhu had been lying in just now.
“I clearly saw glass there earlier. How did you two get inside?”
Song Feifei looked surprised and pointed at the display case.
“The glass cover on this case was open to begin with. That’s how we were able to move the mummy underneath it and lie down there ourselves.
“The two of us originally planned to stand in the corner and scare you.”
I turned to look. That sheet of glass was still there.
“Huh? That’s weird. There definitely wasn’t any glass here earlier!”
As Song Feifei spoke, she reached toward the glass cover.
But to our surprise, her hand passed right through it. That layer of glass disappeared again.
All of us were stunned. We crowded around the display case together, several heads squeezed side by side as we stared at it carefully.
Once we took a closer look, we actually did spot something strange.
There was indeed no glass on the display case. However, embedded in the cabinet at the top was something like a tiny chip. It emitted a faint glow that fell over the display case, making it look from a distance as though it were covered by a layer of glass.
When a person moved closer, their head happened to block the chip, so it would feel as if that layer of glass had suddenly vanished.
“This feels like something someone installed on purpose.”
“Ah, I get it now. That cleaner, Tot, saw the same thing we did. The glass on the crocodile case was already open to begin with.”
We were completely baffled.
“So someone opened the case in advance, then installed this thing to scare people on purpose? What would be the point?”
I stood up and walked over to check the other display cases. Only then did I discover that the other cases still had thick layers of glass. The only case with its glass open was the one Lu Lingzhu and the others had been lying in.
Lu Lingzhu rubbed her chin with one hand.
“There must be more to this matter. Yuanfang, what do you think?”
No sooner had she said that than a burst of footsteps suddenly came from the entrance.
All of us were startled. Song Feifei jumped up on the spot.
“Crap. If Mike finds out we were pretending to be mummies, he’s going to chew us out!”
