Chapter 8
The crowd erupted into an uproar. Chen Zhen winced in embarrassment, frantically shooting me looks.
“Please, stop talking, Sect Master. Please, just stop.”
Even Liu Xiong looked shocked. He glanced at me, then turned to look at the others.
“Master Qiao, this-it might be inappropriate to say such things.”
“Hmph, such arrogance. Liu, you heard her yourself. Have her apologize in front of the media. For your sake, I’ll act as if nothing happened today.”
President Xu’s face was cold as he slammed his cane heavily against the ground.
The pressure shifted to Liu Xiong. He looked torn; logically, he was more inclined to believe this group of Feng Shui Masters. However, after I showed off my skills yesterday and spoke of things like Death Qi and the Life Gate-concepts he had never heard from these Hong Kong masters-the scales in his mind subconsciously tipped in my favor.
“President Xu, Master Qiao was specifically invited from the mainland by Master Chen. If we don’t let her show what she can do, wouldn’t that be a slight to Master Chen’s reputation?”
As expected of Liu Xiong, he deflected the pressure with ease, tossing the hot potato straight to Chen Zhen.
Chen Zhen was a seasoned veteran of the world. Though he was cursing Liu Xiong to high heaven in his head, he maintained a calm facade and nodded.
“President Xu, I have personally witnessed Master Qiao’s abilities; she is indeed more capable than I am. She is young and headstrong, but we’re all old men with one foot in the grave. Why bicker with her over a few words?”
“In my opinion, why don’t we set a challenge? Let everyone compete so she can see the caliber of us Hong Kong Feng Shui Masters. That way, she’ll be humbled by her defeat.”
After speaking, he walked over to me and leaned in to whisper.
“Sect Master, kick their asses. Show these hicks what’s what.”
Chen Zhen had been famous for a long time; he had good connections and high seniority within the Feng Shui Association. Once he spoke up, many people voiced their agreement.
President Xu let out a cold snort and shot me a disdainful look.
“Master Qiao? Heh. Since you’re so capable, why don’t you tell us why this tombstone cracked?”
Ancient tombstones were made of stone. If they were subjected to external carving, internal cracks would often form. Over time, exposure to the elements and the cycle of thermal expansion and contraction would cause those cracks to extend to the surface.
However, the Liu family’s tombstone was clearly not suffering from that. This tombstone was made of black marble. Marble is sturdy, stable, and has good wear resistance. The color of this particular stone still looked brand new, yet a large crack had split down from the top right corner. Numerous fine lines, like a spiderweb, radiated from the main crack and spread across the entire inscription.
I took a walk around the burial plot. I had to admit, the location Liu Xiong had secured was truly excellent. It was a semi-circular grave site with six steps leading down. Standing at the grave, one had an unobstructed view of the entire mountainside, with the boundless blue sea stretching out in the distance.
In Hong Kong, where every inch of land was worth its weight in gold, the Liu family ancestors got to live in a house with a sea view even after death. They certainly knew how to enjoy themselves.
