Chapter 14
There were many things I didn’t say to their faces, fearing I would scare them.
A shadowy corpse raised this way should have stayed within its burial chamber; it shouldn’t possess Death Qi strong enough to crack a headstone. The Death Qi on that coffin clearly had another source.
Once most of the people had left, I took a ladder and climbed back down into the Underground Palace alone, searching every corner. As darkness fell, the Death Qi on the coffin grew so thick it felt almost physical. Reaching out to touch the air, I could feel an unnatural greasiness and a biting chill.
I found no clues in the Underground Palace, leaving me utterly perplexed.
I exited the chamber and stood in the cemetery, tilting my head back to look at the sky.
By now, it was pitch black, with only a few scattered stars flickering above.
I looked at the Tuo Luo Star in the northeast and shuddered, turning toward the other directions in disbelief.
North, south, east, and west-Po Jun, Ju Sect, Lian Zhen, and Tuo Luo. These four evil stars acted like a giant net, firmly enveloping the entire peak of Yuanzhao Mountain. The tombstone of Liu Xiong’s father sat exactly at the intersection of the lines connecting these four stars.
Holy crap. This was the legendary formation: the Four Evils Breach the Gate!
The power of the stars surpasses that of any mountain or river. In the blink of an eye, this rare Feng Shui treasure land had been transformed into the world’s most potent corpse-nurturing ground.
The only stroke of luck was that this celestial power was focused solely on the coffin of Liu Xiong’s father; it couldn’t even affect the shadowy corpse nearby. Furthermore, because the Earth is constantly rotating and orbiting, the positions of the stars change slightly every day.
Strictly speaking, this Four Evils Breach the Gate formation only truly aligns once a year.
Liu Xiong’s father had been buried for fifteen years. It took fifteen years of accumulated power to trigger his Corpse transformation.
Unfortunately, the Tuo Luo Star was shining with immense brilliance. Based on the timing, the body in the coffin would be fully nurtured by tomorrow. When it finally emerged, it would be a true catastrophe for the living; I estimated the military would need high-tech weaponry just to deal with it.
I had to hurry and resolve this before the Zi Hour tomorrow night. Just as I was panicking, I heard faint footsteps behind me. Before I could react, a cold hand clamped over my mouth from behind.
A strange, pungent odor filled my nose. Then, my vision went black, and I lost consciousness.
When I woke up, it was already the next day. I was sitting in a chair, tied up tightly, with the brilliant white sunlight outside the window making my head spin.
I shook my heavy head and looked in confusion at the eight beautiful, fashionable women sitting on the sofa opposite me.
“Who are you?”
“So you’re Qiao Moyu? You’re not much to look at. What’s the matter? Is Liu tired of delicacies and looking for a taste of plain greens for a change?”
A glamorous woman with long, wavy hair walked over in high heels, her hips swaying. She reached out, pinched my chin, and stared at my face for a moment.
“Tch, this is it? I’ll give you five million. Leave Hong Kong today and never come back.”
“Sister Yingying, isn’t five million a bit much?”
“Exactly. People from the mainland are poor. A million should be enough to send her packing. I heard she’s just a poor student; she’d probably be thrilled to death with even a hundred thousand.”
“Yeah, I’m not loaded like Sister Yingying. Let’s get one thing straight: don’t expect me to chip in for that five million.”
The women babbled and argued amongst themselves. After listening for a while, I finally understood the situation.
As it turned out, these women were all Liu Xiong’s girlfriends-actresses, models, or TV anchors. Liu Xiong was incredibly wealthy and kept them in style, providing each with a luxury villa and countless designer goods.
Hong Kong has a liberal social atmosphere, so they had all lived in peace without official status. But my appearance changed everything. The media had reported that Liu Xiong proposed to me. If we actually got married, they would all become mere mistresses.
First, it would damage their reputations and acting careers. Second, if Liu Xiong had a legal wife, he wouldn’t be able to spend money on them as lavishly as before. Everyone’s interests were at stake. So, they had conspired to hire local thugs to kidnap me.
Once I realized what was happening, I was frantic. These lunatics! What were they thinking? That shadowy corpse was still sitting in the Underground Palace. If the Four Evils Breach the Gate triggered tonight, the shadowy corpse would undergo a Corpse transformation too. Combined with Liu Xiong’s father, I wouldn’t be able to handle it alone.
“I’ve really had it with you people. I have nothing to do with Liu Xiong! I’m just here to check his Feng Shui. Let me go, quickly!”
No matter how I explained, they wouldn’t believe me. They thought I was holding out for more than five million. Li Yingying even gave me a murderous look.
“Listen, Qiao. I’m warning you-I’m being nice right now. We should all leave ourselves a way out. People who are never satisfied with what they have usually come to a bad end.”
She gave a look to the side, and a man in a black suit and sunglasses immediately pulled a gun from his pocket. The dark muzzle pointed straight at me. I froze for a second, then nodded immediately.
“Fine. Five million. I’ll leave right now.”
