Chapter 4
Chapter 4
That night, the moaning and groaning from across the hall started up again, seemingly endless.
I didn’t usually mess around with live streaming, but since I couldn’t sleep through the noise, I opened an app out of boredom.
At first, no one was watching, so I did a little research on how to buy traffic.
I didn’t just click the basic promotion button; I bought the “massive” package. Basically, I bought every boost I could find.
A trickle of night owls began to drift into the stream.
“What is this?”
“Why isn’t the host saying anything?”
“The background noise is a bit… mysterious. Is it what I think it is?”
“Host? You there?”
I was too busy figuring out traffic strategies to pay them any mind.
Eventually, they started guessing for themselves.
Some said it was an ASMR sleep aid stream, while others joked that I was live-streaming my husband and a mistress…
As the debate heated up, someone actually sent me a Rocket gift.
“Spill it, host! What exactly are you doing here?!”
I thought they were crazy; it wasn’t like I needed the money.
I just left the stream running and went to bed.
When I woke up the next morning, I found they had already hallucinated several different versions of a backstory…
I was genuinely shaken by the realization that there are way too many bored people in this world.
After a moment’s thought, I used a voice changer and said to the camera, “Ending the stream now. See you tomorrow at the same time. Bye-bye.”
Then, I shut down the stream amidst a barrage of complaints.
I couldn’t stand using that piece-of-trash cooking machine for even a second longer.
I packed it up and took it downstairs to the Western restaurant to give it to Jiang Ning.
Jiang Ning went wild. “This is the latest model!”
I sighed. “It still needs some upgrades… Just make me some scallion oil pasta.”
I actually quite liked her fusion style of cooking.
“Fine…” she said.
She wanted to keep haggling over the cooking machine, but as she walked toward the window, something else caught her eye.
The kid from across the hall was acting suspiciously, rummaging through the trash cans out back for food.
Jiang Ning looked helpless. “I used to pack things nicely in boxes and leave them there for him to take… but his parents caught him once, and that was that.”
The kid didn’t find anything and looked incredibly disappointed.
I thought he would just walk away.
But he was persistent, continuing his search through the pile of garbage until he pulled out someone’s discarded takeout. He crouched right next to the trash can and started eating.
Jiang Ning gasped in horror. “Aiming! You can’t eat that!”
I was speechless.
What kind of name was that?
Upon hearing her voice, the kid looked startled and bolted like the wind.
He was still clutching that box of takeout in his hands.
Jiang Ning stamped her foot in frustration. “How can that kid be like this?!”
I stood by her side and said coolly, “You don’t understand. Kids that age are bottomless pits.”
The boy was ten years old-right at the age where they grow fast and are perpetually starving.
