Chapter 5
Chapter 5
The situation right now was bizarre.
A Dormitory Auntie-if that was even what she was-stood in front of us, while the three of us were desperately messing with our phones.
But it seemed that ever since we took out our phones, she had stopped talking. She only stood there, staring at us with a dark, gloomy expression.
Seeing this, I gritted my teeth and kept talking to her.
“Auntie! Are you not leaving yet? Do you want to join us in trash-talking a scumbag?”
“If you want to deduct points, go ahead. What are a few points compared to a sister’s happiness?”
Wan Yue also chimed in loudly, as if trying to bolster her courage.
The auntie still gave no response. Even the hands on her legs began to twitch restlessly, making fear surge through me all over again.
It wasn’t working? But she really had stopped talking.
It was working? She was about to mutate right in front of us!
“You girls really don’t listen, do you?”
The Dormitory Auntie spoke slowly, raising the knife and pointing it at Huang Xuexue.
Was it really useless?!
All of a sudden, something about this scene seemed to trigger me, and a few utterly unfamiliar images flashed through my mind.
At the same time, a wild idea formed in my head.
There was no time to lose. I yanked Huang Xuexue behind me and started approaching the Dormitory Auntie.
“Auntie, what exactly are you trying to do?”
“I told you. Sleep. Otherwise…”
“I’m sorry, but you’re not from our dorm room, so I don’t feel like listening to you.”
My tone was scornful.
“Besides, what authority do you even have? Disturbing our sleep in the middle of the night-believe it or not, I’ll file a complaint against you.”
The Dormitory Auntie flew into a rage, and the speed of her mutation abruptly accelerated.
“Not listening???? Students refuse to listen to the school, and you still think you can do whatever you want? Our school doesn’t need students like you! Die!”
But that only made the smile tugging at my lips grow crazier and crazier.
That’s right.
When she charged at me, I closed my eyes and raised my phone toward her.
“Cui Xian, seriously… seriously, it’s all thanks to you…”
Huang Xuexue leaned against me, her eyes full of worship as she looked at me.
I glanced at the smashed door and rubbed my temples, which were aching for no reason.
Just now, after I aimed my phone at the Dormitory Auntie, she hadn’t stopped mutating. On the contrary, she had become even more frenzied.
Countless hands had grown out of her legs. Without exception, they were all severed arms clutching her ankles.
But she hadn’t attacked us. Instead, she had taken a terrified step back, smashing through everything we had used to barricade the door before breaking out.
That’s right. To be safe, I had made use of another rule.
[After getting up at night, do not believe anything an outsider tells you.]
My original line of thinking was that if us looking at our phones didn’t work, then maybe the one who had to look at the phone was the monster.
But that was only my guess.
I was afraid of dying. Truly afraid.
Fortunately, in the end, I didn’t know which rule had taken effect, but somehow I really had driven the Dormitory Auntie back.
However, there was one thing that bothered me…
I opened my phone and started searching back and forth.
After the Dormitory Auntie ran away, when I lowered my phone, I realized the screen had stopped on the dialer. Displayed on it was a phone number from our local area.
But when I tried to look at it more carefully, the page suddenly vanished. No matter how I searched, I couldn’t find it again.
“With the door wide open like this, I really don’t feel safe.”
Wan Yue, who had been silent for a long time, suddenly spoke.
She stared at the door.
Some warm, yellow light from the corridor slipped in from outside, as if inviting those of us huddled in the darkness to come out.
But no one knew whether what lay behind that brightness was salvation, or a monster wearing human skin.
“We can’t keep waiting.”
I gently pushed Huang Xuexue, who was clinging to me, away.
“We need to find a way to break this strange deadlock.”
“Since it all started because of Chen Ling, then she must be the key to breaking it too.”
I picked up Chen Ling’s diary once again.
“She once said that she wrote everything important to her in here. Maybe that was a hint for us.”
“Right! Hurry and take a look. I’ll give you some light!”
Huang Xuexue’s voice carried a note of surprise and excitement as she turned on her phone’s flashlight and shone it over.
I took a deep breath and opened to the first page.
[September 2021…]
We had only just read the beginning when the light suddenly dimmed.
“Huh? My phone’s dead… That shouldn’t be right. It still had 66% just now.”
Huang Xuexue sounded a little stunned.
“Quick, use mine.”
Wan Yue pulled out her phone and frantically tapped the power button.
But very soon, her expression also turned grave.
“No, something’s wrong. My phone only has 1% battery left too. It definitely wasn’t like this earlier.”
Hearing that, I checked my own battery level as well. It was the exact same situation.
“Some force is stopping us.”
I was a little excited.
Perhaps that meant we were on the right path.
“It’s fine. The lights in the corridor are still on. I’ll find a spot where I can borrow some light to read.”
I quickly moved toward the middle of the doorway, but Wan Yue grabbed me.
“Don’t.”
Her voice was frighteningly calm.
“The Dormitory Auntie just escaped out there. She might still be wandering the corridor right now. If she sees you, she might attack immediately.”
“It’s already past four. Wait a little longer. The sun will be up soon. It won’t be too late to read it then.”
Wan Yue was right.
Disappointed, I retreated and hid with them in a blind spot as best we could, where we couldn’t be seen from outside the door.

Deadly Dorm Rules
My roommate Chen Ling was always coming up with strange rules. For example, after the dorm power went out, we weren’t allowed to turn on any lights, and once a bag of snacks was opened, it...
