Chapter 5
Chapter 5
Two in the morning.
I was forced to call Meng An.
Chen Yan tapped the speakerphone button.
The moment the call connected, I rushed to speak first. “Meng An, where’s my dog?”
Meng An was still half-asleep.
“Oh, it’s you, Sister. At this hour, even dogs are asleep. Is it urgent? I can bring it over to you.”
“Oh. Then tomorrow is fine.” I was desperate to hang up.
But Meng An was so obedient.
He even said, “Good night, Sister.”
I fumbled to end the call, but someone still heard it.
Chen Yan stood up and opened the window.
He took out a cigarette case and pushed one up.
He flicked the lighter, the flame leaping.
With the cigarette between his teeth, he leaned in. The whole motion was smooth and practiced.
This man was angry.
He never used to smoke in front of me.
Chen Yan lifted his eyes to me and curled his lips. “Good night, Sister, huh?”
“No, you misunderstood. That’s just how he talks.”
Chen Yan only looked at me without saying a word.
I stepped in front of him and grabbed the hem of his shirt.
“Chen Yan, I swear to you, I haven’t even touched his hand.”
Chen Yan raised a hand, signaling for me to stop talking.
Then he told me to give him my phone.
He tapped around casually, pulled up my digital statements, and tossed the phone back to me.
“An eight-million-plus watch. Pretty generous of you.”
The evidence was irrefutable.
I was helpless. “What if I told you I gave it to him for nothing? Would you believe me?”
Chen Yan stared at me, then suddenly let out a cold laugh.
“Did you give it for nothing, or were you paying to keep him? Last time I called, he was beside you too, wasn’t he?”
He spread his hands and shrugged, imitating Meng An’s voice in a deliberately mocking tone.
“Sister Lin Nan, I’m done.”
His sudden imitation made me laugh for some reason.
I really didn’t mean to.
But the moment I laughed, Chen Yan got even angrier.
He immediately stubbed out the cigarette, grabbed his jacket, and slammed the door on his way out.
“Lin Nan, you’ve got guts. Don’t you fucking regret it!”
Chen Yan went to throw money around at the most expensive nightclub in Hong Kong.
When I woke up, my phone was full of photos people had sent me.
Chen Yan from different angles.
Singing, playing cards, drinking.
And beside him were waves of beautiful women.
Someone even secretly filmed a video.
“Brother Yan, now that you’re in Hong Kong, don’t you have to keep your woman company?”
“What woman? You’re not talking about Lin Nan, are you? She’s boring as hell.”
Someone went along with him. “Exactly. She might not even count as your woman. You’ve been engaged for eight years. If you were going to get married, you would’ve done it ages ago!”
Chen Yan tightened his grip on his glass and said through gritted teeth, “Do you even know how to fucking talk?”
Everyone around him was thrown off by his expression.
Chen Yan paused, then smiled indifferently. “It’s a family alliance, after all. We just listen to what our families say.”
This man spent every day acting tough in public.
Following the location in his social media post, I took a cab for fifteen minutes and found him.
Quite a few girls were sitting around Chen Yan.
The six-foot-one man was curled up asleep in the booth with his legs folded, his suit jacket covering his head.
The young girls were so bored they had started cracking sunflower seeds.
I lifted Chen Yan’s jacket.
Chen Yan opened his bleary eyes and was just about to curse, but when he saw it was me, a flash of joy crossed his eyes.
But after raising his hand to check his watch, he deflated again and cleared everyone out.
“Lin Nan, your man is out here drinking and partying with women, and you can still sleep?”
The problem was, by the time he left, it was already two in the morning.
“After I did it with you yesterday, I was honestly exhausted and sleepy.”
That line was skillful as hell.
Chen Yan was still fierce, but his attitude clearly softened.
“So what? If I did it with someone else, you wouldn’t regret it?”
“That’s not something I can control. That thing is attached to your body. Am I supposed to guard the base twenty-four hours a day?”
Chen Yan added ice to his drink and downed it with his head lowered.
“Got it. You don’t like me.”

Canary and Dog
My fiancé was keeping a little canary.
I told him to bring her over so I could take a look.
Perfect timing-I could take my little puppy out for a walk too.
