Chapter 3
Chapter 3
The next day, Shen Ning’er visited the Jiang Family.
She was the future daughter-in-law chosen by Uncle Jiang.
The news of the marriage alliance between the Jiang and Shen families had long been the talk of the town.
Jiang Chuyi and she sat on rattan chairs, both unsmiling, their composure almost unnerving.
“That scandal with the male celebrity-I leaked it myself. Thanks to that, the Jiang Family’s stock price has gone up quite a bit. You should thank me.”
Shen Ning’er’s tone was flippant.
“Then I wish Miss Shen a good time. But have you always been into this type? He doesn’t look much different from the last one.”
Shen Ning’er immediately bristled.
“Just look at my idol’s face-that nose, those eyes, and those abs…”
Hmm… These two who are about to get married both seem to have a screw loose.
After Shen Ning’er left, Jiang Chuyi came straight to my room, looking displeased.
“Why didn’t you come out and stake your claim?”
Um, excuse me?
Big brother, have you been reading too many soap operas about wealthy families?
What claim am I supposed to stake?
“You didn’t take what happened yesterday seriously, did you? I was just speaking off the cuff. You don’t really think I’d be stupid enough to go against Uncle Jiang, do you?”
As soon as I said this, Jiang Chuyi’s face went cold, and the air pressure around him instantly dropped.
“Then what do you mean? You don’t want the money anymore?”
I rolled my eyes.
“This is too absurd, Jiang Chuyi. Anyone with a normal brain wouldn’t agree to that. Yesterday, I saw you were upset, so I went along with what you said…”
“Are you saying I don’t have a normal brain?”
He stared at me, stunned for a long moment, and came to that conclusion.
That very evening, Jiang Chuyi dragged me by force to a banquet.
He even threatened that if I didn’t go, he’d tell Mom that I’m still working as a dancer.
The banquet was packed with wealthy businessmen. From afar, I saw Shen Ning’er clinging to that minor celebrity’s arm, smiling with her eyes curved like crescent moons.
Oh my god, a love battlefield showdown-is it coming?
I rubbed my hands together in eager anticipation.
But Jiang Chuyi, though he saw it just as clearly as I did, pretended not to notice. He turned away and calmly chatted with those who came to greet him and offer toasts, as if nothing was wrong.
It was utterly shameless.
At that moment, he seemed like a different person. Whatever was said, he handled it with composure and ease, without a hint of haste.
The mild warmth in his expression was perfectly measured, leaving no room for criticism.
I had no interest in these social niceties and sat down on a sofa, bored out of my mind.
As it happened, the young men beside me huddled together, talking in low voices about the Jiang Family affairs.
Their words were full of mockery.
“The woman Old Master Jiang found this time is clearly no match for Madam Jiang, not even as good as the previous one. But Jiang Chuyi is really something, putting up with it-his fiancée just left with another guy, and he’s still putting on an act. He’s so young, yet we still have to toast him.”
“Hey, don’t be fooled by how slick he looks now. A friend of mine knows a high school classmate of his, and he sent me an interesting video. Want to watch it together?”
I sat there, listening as their laughter grew more and more brazen, my heart tightening.
Just as I was about to stand up, Jiang Chuyi came over with a drink.
“Brother Wu, long time no see. I happen to have an overseas business deal I’d like to discuss with you.”
The group had been looking down at a phone video, and upon hearing this, their hands trembled, and the phone crashed to the ground.
The person next to them, frightened, hurried to pick it up, but in the fluster, knocked over a wine glass, spilling alcohol everywhere.
The phone screen was still lit, and that familiar pleading voice came out clearly: “I have money, I have lots of money, I’ll give it to you tomorrow…”
Then came the sounds of punching and kicking.
The faces of those who had just been laughing wildly turned ghastly pale.
Jiang Chuyi slowly bent down, picked up the phone from the floor, and held it out to them as if nothing had happened: “Brother Wu, your phone.”
But Brother Wu looked utterly petrified, frozen in place.
Jiang Chuyi gave a light laugh, directly stuffed the phone into his suit pocket, and said in a flat tone,
“Since Brother Wu isn’t in the mood to talk, let’s reschedule for another time.”
With that, he turned around and started chatting and laughing with others, as if nothing had occurred.
I was so furious my lungs were about to burst, but he still wore that fake smile, handling everyone with ease until the banquet ended.
