The fox took up residence in Tianyan Sect.
Not entirely willingly.
Ling Jue had suffered a cultivation deviation, allowing cold poison to enter his body. By an astonishing coincidence, I had dropped out of the sky, done this and that with him, and apparently become tainted by the cold poison too.
I was baffled. Had it not been an aphrodisiac? I did not feel cold at all.
Ling Jue could not explain why we kept doing this and that, either.
But we could not leave the mystery unsolved forever, so I reluctantly agreed to stay and cooperate.
Things could hardly get worse.
Xiao Fu screamed without pause.
“Host, this is a match bestowed by heaven!”
“Why would a Fertility System like me bind itself to you? Why would the famous Sword Venerable suffer a mishap at that precise moment? Why would the two of you meet again during a random demon hunt? Fate, Host! It’s fate!”
It was deafening.
The system appeared to have lost its mind.
My new home was called Cangyue Peak. Ling Jue claimed it was peaceful. I disagreed.
Tianyan Sect’s disciples had evidently heard rumors. Every so often, they crept over and peered around corners, their eyes burning with hunger for gossip.
“Martial Uncle is hiding someone here. Are they cultivation partners?”
“He’s so beautiful. I want a fox spirit as my partner too.”
“But Martial Uncle cultivates the Path of Detachment. What if he’s a faithless scoundrel? If I comfort the little fox afterward, maybe he’ll fall in love with me.”
“Quiet! If Martial Uncle hears you, you’re doomed.”
“Who is doomed?” Ling Jue asked coldly.
The disciples’ faces went white. They whirled around to greet him.
“My master is checking my lessons. I must go, Martial Uncle.”
“I need to practice my sword. Goodbye, Martial Uncle!”
“My vegetable seedlings look ready to give birth. They need me. I should leave, Martial Uncle.”
Every excuse was absurd, but Ling Jue merely nodded.
Over the past few days, I had discovered that despite the permanent frost surrounding him, he was actually easy to get along with.
There were exceptions.
In bed, for instance, he became inexplicably fierce.
The third eruption of cold poison seemed milder than the first two, so my thoughts remained much clearer.
Unfortunately, Ling Jue’s restrained expression made me unbearably restless.
Foxes did not believe in needless restraint. I steeled myself and licked him first.
The situation promptly spun out of control.
Soon I was whimpering again.
That shameless system Xiao Fu shouted inside my head.
“Relax, Host. Breathe.”
“Sword Venerable, adjust the angle by fifteen degrees for optimal ergonomics!”
I had no words fit to print.
I could not bear any more and begged Ling Jue to slow down. Nausea surged, and I retched right in front of him.
Ling Jue immediately looked wounded.
Self-doubt filled his eyes. “Am I that bad?”
“No—ugh!”
