Chapter 4
Chapter 4
Yun Ke received a message from Father by carrier pigeon.
He immediately mounted his horse and rushed home.
He stormed through the gates of Xiyun Pavilion in a frenzy.
A whole group of physicians trailed behind him.
Yun’e had been faking it from the start.
The moment she saw her brother return,
she immediately “slowly came to.”
Weeping as prettily as pear blossoms in the rain,
she threw herself into Yun Ke’s arms and cried, “Brother, save me!”
Grandmother stood at the doorway with her cane, her face livid.
In the end, she still couldn’t stop this eldest legitimate grandson of hers.
Mother was so furious she smashed several sets of teacups, scattering shards of porcelain all over the floor.
Yun Ke flew into a terrible rage.
But Grandmother was his elder, and Mother was his elder too.
He didn’t dare actually do anything to them.
So he turned around and came to squeeze me, the easy target.
He strode into my courtyard,
the anger on his face not yet fully restrained.
“Yun Ai, as the elder sister, you should be setting a good example for your younger sister.”
“If you weren’t going out every day, how would Yun’e have suffered such a disaster?”
Looking at his furious face, I suddenly wanted to laugh.
In my previous life, he had worn the exact same expression.
Back then, I had still been foolish.
I thought he at least cared about me.
After all, we were siblings born from the same mother.
But he had deliberately rushed back on horseback just to mock me.
“Well, if it isn’t our family’s little abacus demon.”
“How did you end up in such a sorry state?”
His tone had been flippant, his eyes contemptuous.
He couldn’t hide his glee at my misfortune.
Even after I married into the Commandery Prince’s Manor,
he had eagerly helped Murong Ling come up with ways to torment me.
He said to me,
“If you steal someone else’s things, you have to pay the price!”
Perhaps I truly was destined to have shallow ties with my own kin.
I was no longer the person from my previous life, who only knew how to endure.
I said,
“If you’re sick, go see a physician. Don’t come barking in my yard!”
Yun Ke clearly hadn’t expected me to say that.
He froze where he stood.
Then his face flushed crimson.
“What did you say?!”
He raised his hand and slapped toward my face.
I turned aside and dodged, light as could be.
Yun Ke had used too much force.
Unable to stop himself, he staggered forward and pitched down.
He hit the ground face-first with a solid thud.
I lowered my head and looked at Yun Ke struggling on the ground.
Not a single ripple stirred in my heart.
“Yun Ke,” I said, “there are many men gathered in the front hall to propose marriage.”
“If you truly care about Yun’e, then you should think about how to deal with them.”
They were all men who had come into contact with her that day.
Yun Ke’s face went from red to white.
He did, after all, truly dote on Yun’e.
After he left, Bai Lan asked softly,
“Eldest Miss, how will the Young Master deal with those men asking for marriage?”
“Him?” I laughed. “He can’t even sort himself out.”
“He’ll only push Yun’e into an even deeper pit of fire.”
And this was only the beginning.
