Chapter 3

I’d forgotten just how insatiable he could be. With a sigh, I rolled onto my stomach for him. Qin Xian’s entire body was wound tight, his eyes dark and bright.

His scorching breath spilled over my neck. When the passion peaked, he leaned in to kiss me.

But just before our lips met, I remembered that message-[Annoying]-and instantly lost interest.

I turned my head away. The man on top of me went still, as though time itself had frozen. I heard him swallow.

“Did you… eat a lot this afternoon?”

The question came out of nowhere, his voice husky.

My best friend hadn’t exaggerated. That personal shopper’s service was absolutely top-notch. The moment he realized I was a big spender, he signed me up for a membership and arranged everything from desserts and milk tea to dinner.

I gave a soft hum of acknowledgment, only for the man above me to suddenly start thrusting hard.

A quiet moan escaped through my lips. When I turned my head, I found Qin Xian’s expression icy in the dim light.

“Go easier.”

His thrusts were starting to hurt, so I couldn’t help pinching him. I swore I barely used any force, yet the corners of his eyes seemed to turn red.

Who would have thought a grown man like him would be so afraid of pain?

In a rare attack of conscience, I let go and allowed him to have his way with me until well past midnight.

By the second half of the night, I was so exhausted I had almost no strength left. I drifted off, only to wake with the suffocating sensation of being trapped. That was when I realized Qin Xian had wrapped himself around me so tightly there wasn’t even a sliver of space between us.

I shifted uncomfortably, and he instinctively tightened his hold.

No one wanted to sleep while being restrained like a parcel. Irritated, I rolled out of bed, grabbed my pillow, and prepared to head to the guest room.

A hand caught my wrist. I looked back, and my heart skipped a beat despite myself. Qin Xian had woken up at some point.

He held my arm with one hand, his gaze inscrutable and his voice pleasantly hoarse.

“Where are you going?”

“I’m sleeping in the guest room.”

After a few seconds of silence, he sat up with his back to me.

“You can’t sleep in unfamiliar beds. I’ll go.”

As I watched Qin Xian’s tall figure disappear through the door, I could have sworn there was something forlorn about him.

The next morning, I couldn’t even be bothered to open my eyes when I sensed someone standing beside the bed.

After a long while, Qin Xian’s breathy voice sounded by my ear.

“I’m leaving for work.”

God, was he annoying. He might not be tired after keeping me up all night, but I certainly was.

I covered my ears and rolled over, forcing the rest of his words back down his throat.

This time, he seemed to stand there even longer. So long, in fact, that when I finally woke up, several of the housekeepers were still talking about it.

“Was Sir late this morning?”

“Probably. It was almost ten when he left.”

I had no interest in any of that. I’d made plans with the personal shopper yesterday, and another batch of items he’d ordered for me was arriving today.

“Madam, aren’t you going to the office to have lunch with Sir today either?”

Just as I was about to leave, a housekeeper hurried over to stop me, looking as though she wanted to say more.

“When I delivered lunch yesterday, Sir looked terrible. I got the feeling he’d rather have seen…”

It took all my self-control not to roll my eyes.

“Food is food. What difference does it make whether you deliver it or I do?”

The housekeeper had no response. Delighted, I rushed off to the battlefield for another shopping spree.

“Miss, your phone’s been ringing nonstop. Could it be something urgent?”

The personal shopper was grinning from ear to ear as he held my phone out to me.

I unlocked it, frowning so hard I could have crushed a fly between my brows.

Qin Xian clearly had too much time on his hands. The moment I stopped putting on an act, he’d decided to start.

He’d been sending me messages ever since he arrived at work that morning. Qin Xian’s texting style was exactly like the man himself.

Aloof and pretentious.

[I’m at work.]

[Are you awake?]

[In a meeting.]

[Just had another meeting.]

[Another meeting.]

To hell with his meetings. If he had time to play with his phone in the middle of so many of them, he obviously wasn’t busy enough.

I couldn’t be bothered to answer. Just as I turned my attention back to the beautiful bag in front of me, Qin Xian called.

After hesitating for a few seconds, I answered, though my mind was elsewhere.

He apparently hadn’t expected me to pick up. Several seconds of silence passed before Qin Xian’s voice came through.

“Have you eaten?”

“Mm-hmm.”

Another silence followed. I pointed at the bag in front of me, and the personal shopper cheerfully began wrapping it up.

“Why… didn’t you come by with lunch today either?”

As I tried to figure out how to answer, my fingers absently dug into the bag in front of me.

“Miss, please don’t press so hard…”

The personal shopper sucked in a distressed breath, interrupting my train of thought.

The line fell silent. I turned and glared at him.

It was just a bag. Even if I damaged it, it wasn’t as though I couldn’t afford another one.

The personal shopper awkwardly covered his mouth and fell quiet.

“I’m busy.”

With my thoughts interrupted, I gave Qin Xian the most perfunctory answer possible. This time, the silence on the other end stretched on even longer. Just as I began to wonder if the signal was bad and prepared to hang up, Qin Xian’s impossibly hoarse voice came through the receiver.

“Yinyin, did I do something wrong?”
