Chapter 4
Chapter 4
Zhou Qi’s Studio was loaded, and they paid with astonishing speed. It had been a long time since I’d run into such an easy mark.
When Zhou Qi released his new song, he seemed to know I only had an account on one social platform, so he posted the track there specifically and tagged me, inviting me to give my thoughts.
I clicked in and immediately saw the huge text on the cover:
[Lyricist: Nameless]
[Composer: Nameless]
[Vocals: Zhou Qi]
As if he were afraid people wouldn’t know he was the first person on the entire internet to take a chance on me.
The netizens’ focus was strangely split. Half of them were praising the song, while the other half were congratulating Zhou Qi for becoming the first lucky person online to win Teacher Nameless’s favor.
He seemed rather carried away.
He even made a separate post about it.
I just wondered whether he would still be able to smile once he found out who I was someday.
In truth, quite a few people had sent me private messages backstage. After Zhou Qi, I also began getting in touch with other clients. Working through the internet really was satisfying.
Most clients spoke properly. As for the ones who didn’t, I could simply reject them. I didn’t have to care about anyone’s mood at all.
Of course there were negative comments. The internet was never short of haters.
Some of the people I’d ignored before stirred up a bit of drama online, and a flood of nasty comments poured into my comment section and private messages.
But what was different was that I seemed to have gained a huge number of fans who could fight for me.
Zhou Qi even used his main account to clap back at my antis.
He seemed to be my fan.
What a strange person.
I still didn’t respond to a single word of their love or hate. A calmer emotional range suited me better.
Jiang Yiming’s development was going fairly well. I had thought Xu Zhen would get engaged to him after I left, but there still wasn’t any definite news online. I didn’t know whether it hadn’t happened or simply hadn’t been made public, but they were indeed hyping themselves up.
Sister Chen’s daughter’s surgery was very successful. She had taken a leave from school and was now recovering. She was lucky. A kidney donor had come through.
The money left in the card would be enough for the girl to rest and recuperate properly.
The road out of the village was far too difficult to travel, so I discussed it with the village chief and donated some money to have it paved.
My Little Courtyard finally looked like something now. The flowers I had planted earlier had bloomed, and white and pink roses climbed over the fence.
The village children had clearly taken a liking to my Little Courtyard. They often ran over and stared at it longingly.
They weren’t especially noisy children, so I let them come in and play.
Their parents had probably warned them not to touch my things.
Because the village was repairing the road.
Though my selfish reason was to make things easier for myself, it was a major event for the village. The villagers were all very good to me now.
At first, the children were still a little reserved when they came over. Later, they gradually relaxed.
The weather had been nice lately, so I had someone help move the piano outside. I set up a canopy and sat in the courtyard to play.
When the sound of the piano rang out, everything around me seemed to fall still.
I sank into my own world. My fingertips pressed down on the keys, and the music flowed slowly. I couldn’t hear any other movement at all.
The piece I was playing was actually a beginner piano piece, Mariage d’amour. There had been a period in the past when I liked it very much.
After I finished playing, I heard movement behind me.
Lately, to make it easier for the village children to come over and play, I hadn’t been closing the courtyard gate tightly.
So I turned around.
I saw an unfamiliar, uninvited guest standing in the courtyard. He was very tall, with an exceptionally beautiful face. Dressed in a suit, his features were refined, and he looked mixed-race. He clearly wasn’t from here.
This was the first time I met Pei Jinyan.
