Chapter 5
Chapter 5
The days slipped by like running water.
Counting it up, those strange people hadn’t come by in several days.
With my guard down, I snuck downstairs to bask in the sun again-and ran right into the auntie from next door.
When she saw me crouching in the bushes, staring into space, her face filled with exasperation. “Wenwen, don’t go causing more trouble for Mr. Gu.
“I heard a lot of people have been going to his company lately to make a scene…”
As she spoke, she seemed to realize she’d said too much and abruptly changed tack. “Anyway, be good. Be sensible. Don’t make him even more tired, understand?”
When I obediently nodded, the auntie ruffled my hair, then left with a sigh.
Actually, I wasn’t trying to cause trouble for Gu Yushu.
I just wanted to pick him up after work.
I gazed toward the distant horizon. The withered-rose glow of sunset was strange and dazzling, as if the clouds themselves were dying. On the path not far away, a figure with his head lowered gradually came into view.
He looked very tired.
But the moment he lifted his head and saw me hovering behind the bushes, trying to hide, he smiled in relief.
“Waiting for me?”
“Mm.”
The man before me strode over and gently pressed a kiss to my lips.
Such a sweet kiss.
As if he’d fed me a mouthful of malt candy.
After that, he had me sit on the edge of the flower bed while he stood far away to make a call.
Before long, a beat-up little pickup truck drove up downstairs. The driver sat up front and called out, “Let’s be clear first-the price doesn’t include moving fees. You’ll have to load everything yourself!”
Gu Yushu answered in a low voice.
Then he turned back into the apartment and began carrying things to the truck with everything he had. His thin shirt was soon soaked through with sweat, and even his jet-black, choppy hair was damp, clinging messily to his beautifully shaped forehead.
I was confused. “Are we moving again?”
“Mm.” He had something hoisted over his shoulder, but still didn’t forget to turn his head and reassure me. “It’s a work transfer. Just somewhere a little farther away.
“Don’t worry.”
“Oh.”
Naturally, I wasn’t worried.
After all, I was only a mushroom. Anywhere was fine.
Since we didn’t have much, the truck set off after half an hour. Gu Yushu and I sat in the gaps between the furniture in the truck bed, squeezed close together, and somehow it even felt a little warm.
I was starting to get sleepy when the man held my icy hand and suddenly said in a low voice, “I’m sorry. I’ve made you suffer.”
“Not at all.”
I rested my head on his shoulder. “As long as I’m with you, I’m fine with anything.”
At that, he said nothing.
His melancholy, bewildered eyes looked ahead.

After Becoming a Mushroom
I am a mushroom. But my master doesn’t see it that way.
Whenever I tell him I’m a mushroom that gained sentience, he just lets out a long, heavy sigh.
Aside from that,...
