Chapter 44
Chapter 44
After the White Tiger’s paw was repelled by the Talisman Paper, a purple flame ignited upon its claws-seductive yet eerie.
The Tiger Beast let out a world-shaking roar of agony before disintegrating into ash in an instant.
As the Tiger Beast’s body vanished, a white light source darted out from the flames, flying toward the darkness.
However, before the light source could hide in the shadows, another Talisman Paper struck it.
The light source froze abruptly in mid-air and crashed straight to the ground.
Those present focused their gaze and discovered that it was actually a ginseng root.
Everything had happened too fast for Lan Chenghai to react.
Just as he was about to ask which fellow cultivator had come to their aid, he saw the figure of the young girl he had met earlier on the surface emerge within the faint glow of a mobile phone light.
Lan Chenghai was less than five meters away from Xia Sheng, and he saw clearly as she appeared out of thin air.
Shaken, Lan Chenghai asked, “Little girl, how did you just hide your presence?”
“I used Invisibility Talismans.”
“Invisibility Talismans? I have never heard of such treasures…”
Lan Chenghai muttered to himself, his gaze toward Xia Sheng growing somewhat fervent.
“Little girl, did you draw those Invisibility Talismans yourself? Could you tell this old man how you did it?”
Lan Chenghai had studied Mystic Arts since childhood and had dabbled in all the major existing branches of the Mystic Sect, yet he had never heard of something like an Invisibility Talisman!
He had truly stumbled upon a treasure today!
“I’ll talk to you later.”
Xia Sheng gave a brief reply before walking toward the slender ginseng on the ground. She looked down and asked, “Where did you hide Senior Feng?”
The ginseng remained motionless, as if it were truly just a plant.
The others were somewhat bewildered to see Xia Sheng talking to a ginseng root.
Lan Chenghai said, “Little Fellow Daoist, this ginseng has no aura of life. It is likely something the Ghost Tiger swallowed but hadn’t digested yet. We should continue searching this Ghost Realm to see if we can find the ghost that created it.”
After Xia Sheng killed the White Tiger, the surrounding environment hadn’t changed, indicating they were still within a domain created by someone or something.
Only by finding the creator of this Ghost Realm would they have a chance of finding the son of the Feng Family.
Xia Sheng did not respond to Lan Chenghai. She crouched down, pinched one of the ginseng’s root hairs, and lifted it to eye level.
“I’ll give you ten seconds. If you don’t talk, I’ll burn your root hairs one by one.”
The ginseng still didn’t react.
Xia Sheng took out a Talisman Paper. It ignited in her palm into a purple flame, carrying the same ghostly chill as the fire that had incinerated the White Tiger.
This kind of fire wouldn’t burn a living person, but it possessed extreme lethality against ghosts and demons.
When the flame flared up, the ginseng in Xia Sheng’s hand trembled imperceptibly.
The others couldn’t see this subtle change, but Lan Chenghai noticed it.
He was inwardly astonished; he hadn’t expected this ginseng to actually be alive.
He stopped trying to persuade Xia Sheng and instead watched the ginseng quietly, wanting to see what it actually was.
Xia Sheng began the countdown: “Ten, nine, eight…”
With every number she counted, she moved the Talisman Paper burning with purple flames a fraction closer to the ginseng.
When she reached “one,” the little ginseng finally buckled under the pressure. “Stop!”
A crisp voice rang out, sounding like a human child.
However, the voice was a step too late. By the time it spoke, the fire in Xia Sheng’s hand had already ignited one of the ginseng’s root hairs.
“Aaaaaahhhhh!!!! My butt!!!!”
The ginseng broke free from Xia Sheng’s hand, transformed into a three-year-old boy, and landed on the ground.
The little boy was as delicate as carved jade, wearing a green, cross-collared embroidered Han-style top and loose shorts. He clutched his backside, patting out the fire while running circles around Xia Sheng-a sight both adorable and hilarious.
Xia Sheng reached out and grabbed the little fellow again. With a gentle puff of air, the fire on his bottom was extinguished.
As the burning sensation vanished, the little boy piteously covered his exposed buttocks-now visible through his burnt pants-and looked at Xia Sheng with a look of deep resentment.
He didn’t know what kind of fire this Celestial Master was using. Usually, his hair and clothes could regenerate after being destroyed, but after being scorched by this purple flame, they actually couldn’t.
Xia Sheng set the little fellow back on the ground and asked, “Where did you put Senior Feng?”
The little fellow wasn’t particularly inclined to answer her question and turned his head away.
Xia Sheng’s eyes narrowed slightly as she pulled out a piece of Talisman Paper and gave it a little shake.
The little boy panicked instantly. “Wait, wait, wait! I’ll let him out right now, just don’t do anything!”
With that, the little fellow stood up, plucked a strand of his own hair, bent over, and stuck out his little bottom while drawing a circle on the ground.
In the next instant, the person Xia Sheng had been looking for today appeared before their eyes.
President Feng didn’t have a single wound on him. When he saw the little boy, his face didn’t show any fear; instead, his expression was filled with nothing but confusion.
When Mr. Feng and Mrs. Feng saw their son appearing safe and sound, tears immediately began to fall. They rushed forward and pulled him into a tight embrace.
Senior Feng was a bit dazed as his parents hugged him. “Dad, Mom, why are you crying?”
Mrs. Feng wiped her tears. “You didn’t come home all night and were kidnapped by a ghost! Why wouldn’t we be crying?
“Let me look at you. Are you hurt anywhere?”
As Mother Feng spoke, she pulled her son around, checking him from head to toe.
Senior Feng held his mother’s hands, his face full of bewilderment. “What ghost? I was just here playing with Shen Shen last night.
“He said his parents were away for work and rarely came home, so he was scared to sleep alone at night. I felt sorry for him, so I stayed to keep him company.
“Didn’t I send you a text last night saying I was safe?”
Mrs. Feng replied, “When did you send me a text? I couldn’t get through to your phone at all last night. Your father and I have been searching for a day and a night!”
Now it was Senior Feng’s turn to be confused.
He looked around and realized this wasn’t the basement he had been in just a moment ago.
His gaze finally landed on Shen Shen. “Shen Shen, do you know what my parents are talking about?”
The little fellow shrank guiltily behind Xia Sheng and said nothing.
Xia Sheng explained, “You must have entered a domain illusion created by this Little Ginseng Spirit last night. In reality, you never sent any messages to your parents.”
Senior Feng was even more bewildered.
Mrs. Feng explained everything to him, and only then did Senior Feng understand.
No wonder there were eighteen floors beneath this building, and a little boy living there.
Last night, he had been wondering if it wasn’t exhausting for this little fellow to climb eighteen floors every day just to reach the surface.
It turned out this little guy wasn’t human at all, but a Spirit Monster!
However, he had always been a carefree soul. Even after learning he had spent the night with a monster, he didn’t feel much fear. Instead, he turned around to comfort his parents, saying he hadn’t suffered any mistreatment and telling them not to worry.
Seeing their son like this, Mr. and Mrs. Feng didn’t know whether to laugh or be angry.
While the family of three was reuniting, Shen Shen saw that no one was paying attention to him and prepared to slip away.
However, he had barely taken a step when he was grabbed by the back of his collar by Xia Sheng again.
Shen Shen wore a mournful expression, his small features scrunched together.
“Little Immortal, I’ve never hurt a person in my life! At most, when I was bored, I’d trick a person or two into playing with me for a few days. Could you please let me go?”
