Chapter 37

After Shen Ze left, Shen Yanchen stood up and headed upstairs.

As he entered the study, Lu Ren called.

“Ninth Master, everything you asked me to handle has been taken care of. Those entertainment clubs have been shut down and sealed.

“The police are currently gathering evidence of Director Huang and his associates’ crimes. It turns out a leader from one of our Feng Huai subsidiaries used to have dealings with them.

“If this gets exposed, it might affect Feng Huai’s reputation. Do you want me to have the evidence destroyed?”

Lu Ren was currently cooperating with the investigation and was on-site.

Given the influence of the Shen Family’s Ninth Master, no one would dare stop him if he wanted to tamper with things at the scene.

Shen Yanchen gazed out at the boundless night sky, his dark eyes as deep and inscrutable as an ancient well. “No need. Let them investigate.

“No one is allowed to interfere with this search. Just keep a close eye on the media’s reports.”

Lu Ren was slightly stunned.

Today, not only had the Ninth Master taken the initiative to report some insignificant people, but he also had no intention of stopping even when his own interests were involved. This didn’t seem like his usual style at all.

Could it be that after being forcibly kissed by the Little Celestial Master last time, his master really started thinking of that young girl as his wife?

Lu Ren hesitated for a long while before cautiously reminding him, “Ninth Master, the Little Celestial Master just turned eighteen this year…”

“She’ll be twenty in two years.”

Lu Ren: “???”

What did that mean?

Before he could ask anything else, the call was disconnected.

Lu Ren listened to the dial tone, unable to snap out of it for a long time.

Did the Ninth Master mean he intended to wait until the girl turned twenty to spirit her away and register their marriage?

The old iron tree was finally blossoming?

The night before last, he had still been pitying the Ninth Master for being taken advantage of by the Little Celestial Master’s forced kiss.

Now, it was hard to say who was actually taking advantage of whom.

The next day, when Xia Sheng woke up, she found herself being held tightly by Han Yanran.

The girl seemed to be having a nightmare, her brow furrowed deeply.

Xia Sheng recited a Calming Spell, and Han Yanran soon settled down.

Not wanting to disturb her, Xia Sheng got out of bed and went for a run.

During breakfast, Fang Rong asked, “Sheng’er, should we call your friend to come eat?”

“No need, let her sleep a bit longer.”

Han Yanran hadn’t fallen asleep until three or four in the morning; she would likely wake up late today.

Xia Sheng thought for a moment and said, “Mom, I want Yanran to stay with us for a while. Is that okay?”

Han Yanran was all alone here and her emotions were unstable. It would be much better if Xia Sheng could stay by her side.

Fang Rong had no objections. “Of course. You’re the one renting this house, so you have the right to decide.”

Fang Rong had vaguely sensed last night that Han Yanran must have gone through some major trauma. Her mental state seemed fragile, and she was likely one of her daughter’s clients.

Since it was someone her daughter wanted to help, she naturally supported it unconditionally.

She had chatted with the girl the previous night specifically to distract her and lift her spirits.

After breakfast, Xia Sheng headed out.

The past two days had been the weekend, and formal classes were starting today.

The apartment she rented was right across from the school’s south gate. The entrance was just past the traffic light.

From a distance, she saw someone standing at the gate, seemingly waiting for her.

Shen Ze was on his side of the road, waving at Xia Sheng from a dozen meters away while shouting, “Little Celestial Master!”

Xia Sheng found it a bit embarrassing and didn’t respond.

Once she crossed the street, Shen Ze immediately scurried over. “Little Celestial Master, did you not notice me just now? I greeted you but you didn’t say anything.”

Xia Sheng gave him a sidelong glance. “Just call me by my name at school.”

“What was your name again?”

“…Xia Sheng.”

After some idle chatter, Shen Ze brought up yesterday’s events.

“Little… Sheng’er, those people who died in the news yesterday-was that your doing?”
“Yeah.”

Shen Ze stumbled, his steps faltering. “It really was you?”

He had been thinking all last night that the Little Celestial Master surely wasn’t such a brutal person, but he hadn’t expected it to actually be her doing.

Xia Sheng arched an eyebrow. “What? You think I was too ruthless?”

“Not really. Those guys had done every bad deed imaginable; their deaths aren’t worth mourning. I’m just a bit surprised.”

Shen Ze was certainly not the type to empathize with villains.

“By the way, Sheng’er, my allowance for next month was completely docked by Uncle Nine. Can I pay you for this time in two months?”

“No need. The person I helped this time wasn’t you.”

Doing good deeds was a way for her to accumulate Merit. This time, she hadn’t just saved a life but had also exacted revenge for those Wraiths, which was already worth the effort.

Shen Ze thought she was being chivalrous because he was out of money and was deeply moved. “Sheng’er, you’re so kind.”

Xia Sheng glanced at him with a look of slight disdain. “Alright, hurry up and go. Your academy is in the opposite direction from mine.”

“Got it, got it.”

Xia Sheng found the lecture hall for her class and saw two boys standing by the door.

One of them spotted Xia Sheng and immediately walked over.

“Classmate Xia, long time no see.”

This was the boy who had asked for Xia Sheng’s business card the day military training ended.

Xia Sheng thought back for a moment. “Are you the Little Puppy?”

The boy’s face flushed with embarrassment at being called a “Little Puppy” to his face. He cleared his throat and said, “My name is Qian Yusheng.

“I came to find you today to ask if you’re free tomorrow night.

“Our Supernatural Club is having a welcoming activity. We’re planning to go explore the abandoned buildings in the south of the city.

“I noticed you seem interested in these kinds of things. Would you like to join us?”

Qian Yusheng hadn’t originally intended to invite Xia Sheng, as it felt too presumptuous.

However, his roommate had told him that Xia Sheng’s words that day were a clear hint for him to take the initiative and invite her out, urging him to seize the opportunity.

After much hesitation, he had finally come over.

Xia Sheng said, “Your forehead is darkened and your eyes are bloodshot; disaster will surely strike you tomorrow. I advise you not to participate in this activity.”

Qian Yusheng was stunned by her words, unsure of how to respond.

The other boy beside him was somewhat displeased. “If you don’t like Yusheng, you could just say so. Why curse him?”

Qian Yusheng pulled on his friend’s hand, signaling him with a look not to speak out of turn, then gave Xia Sheng an apologetic smile.

“I’m sorry, I was being too forward. I won’t disturb you any further today.”

With that, he dragged his friend away.

Xia Sheng saw that Qian Yusheng hadn’t taken her words to heart, but she didn’t say anything more.

Those abandoned buildings in the south did have some issues, but they weren’t lethal yet. There was no immediate rush.

Walking into the classroom, she saw Ning Xi waving at her from the back row.

“Sheng’er, over here!”

Her movements and tone were remarkably similar to a certain airhead Xia Sheng had encountered at the school gate ten minutes ago.

As she sat down, Ning Xi pulled her closer to gossip. “Were you just talking to that Little Puppy from the Management Department at the door? What did he want? Was it a date?”

Xia Sheng glanced at her indifferently. “He has an appointment with a ghost tomorrow. Do you want to go along and see?”

Ning Xi was timid and feared such things the most. Her expression crumbled instantly, and she looked at Xia Sheng with a mournful gaze.

Her Sheng’er really wasn’t cute at all.

Ning Xi asked, “Sheng’er, since you’ve calculated that Qian Yusheng will run into a ghost, why aren’t you going with him?”

Xia Sheng replied, “The Supernatural Club has incidents every year, yet new students keep joining.

“Some people need to hit a dead end before they’ll turn back. At most, he’ll get a bit of a fright tomorrow without any major loss. Consider it a lesson learned.”
