Chapter 35

After the opening ceremony concluded, the assistant director organized a group dinner. Director Huang made a quick excuse and left early.

He had only walked a few steps when he received a call from Han Yanran.

“Director Huang, I’ve parked the car over by Phase III of the filming base. Just come straight here.”

Director Huang frowned. “Why did you drive so far?”

That part of the filming base was still under development. Over the past few months, the contractor had run into some cash flow issues, causing construction to temporarily halt. Hardly anyone ever went there.

Han Yanran suppressed her disgust and said, “Don’t you want to try doing it outside?”

A lecherous grin spread across Director Huang’s face.

As he thought, the woman had just been playing hard to get this morning.

A little threat, and she had become submissive in an instant.

“Fine, I’m on my way.”

Hanging up, the director headed toward the location Han Yanran had specified.

Seeing a figure sitting in the passenger seat from a distance, Director Huang couldn’t wait and quickened his pace.

He reached the car and pulled open the door, but the person inside wasn’t Han Yanran.

Director Huang froze. “You are…”

Before he could finish, Xia Sheng slapped a piece of Talisman Paper directly onto his face.

His face instantly began to burn. The flesh on his face festered and charred bit by bit, emitting a foul stench.

Director Huang let out a blood-curdling scream, collapsing to the ground and thrashing like a dying fish.

Han Yanran watched as Xia Sheng turned Director Huang into this state with just a single Talisman. While she was horrified, a sense of vengeful satisfaction rose in her heart.

Just a second before the director was about to pass out, Xia Sheng raised her hand. The flames on his face vanished instantly, and the charred portions of his skin were restored in the blink of an eye.

Seeing this, Han Yanran looked at Xia Sheng. “Miss Xia, did it fail?”

“No.” Xia Sheng’s lips curled into a smirk, but her eyes remained icy. She threw another piece of Talisman Paper onto Director Huang’s crotch.

The pain and wounds on Director Huang’s face had vanished so suddenly that he thought it had all been an illusion. He was just about to lash out and teach this charlatan bitch, Xia Sheng, a lesson.

But then, Xia Sheng threw another Talisman, and his most sensitive part began to burn.

He screamed again, his cries even more shrill and agonizing than before.

Xia Sheng acted as if she couldn’t hear his wails, calmly telling Han Yanran, “This Talisman Paper is my own creation.

“It can burn anything to ash, but once the Talisman Paper is fully consumed, it restores the person or object to its original state, leaving no trace behind.

“Didn’t he burn you with cigarette butts? These Talismans are perfect for dealing with him.”

As Xia Sheng spoke, she handed several pieces of Talisman Paper to her. “I’m giving these to you. You can take your revenge however you like now.

“Whether it’s a knife wound or a scar, the moment the Talisman Paper finishes burning on him, his body will return to its most complete state from five minutes prior.”

Initially, Xia Sheng had intended to let the Wraiths take Director Huang’s life directly, but that would be too easy on him.

For an evil man like him, she couldn’t let him die too quickly.

Director Huang was a mess of tears and snot from the pain, but he heard Xia Sheng’s words and wailed for mercy.

“Little Celestial Master, Little Immortal, I know I was wrong! Please, let me go!”

Xia Sheng ignored him and continued to Han Yanran, “I’ve restricted his movement for twenty minutes.

“I’ll keep watch nearby for you during this time. You can do whatever you want to get back at him.”

Han Yanran had suffered so much; she couldn’t let it go for nothing.

Han Yanran nodded. Her eyes were filled with tears, but her gaze was incredibly firm.

“Miss Xia, thank you.”

After what happened last night, she thought she would live the rest of her life under Director Huang’s control and shadow.

She never expected to find a way out of her desperate situation and meet a benefactor like Xia Sheng.
Director Huang listened to their conversation, his heart flooding with a wave of regret so intense it felt like his intestines were turning green.

He had spent the better part of his life bullying men and victimizing women, but who could have imagined he would finally meet his end at the hands of a young girl?!

He pleaded for mercy incessantly. Seeing that Xia Sheng remained unmoved, he began to hurl curses, until finally, the agony of his torture left him unable to speak. He blacked out again and again, only to be jolted awake by the recurring pain each time.

Twenty minutes passed this way. Han Yanran had finished venting her fury and finally felt a sense of release.

She turned to Xia Sheng and asked, “Miss Xia, what do we do next?”

Xia Sheng walked over, pulled a piece of Talisman Paper from Director Huang’s jacket pocket, and crushed it.

“The Evil-Warding Talisman protecting him is broken. The Wraiths he harmed, who have been lingering in the human world, will tear his Living Soul to shreds.

“This way, even if someone tries to investigate, it will be impossible to determine his cause of death.”

As soon as she finished speaking, Director Huang’s eyes bulged. In an instant, the spark of life vanished from them.

Han Yanran couldn’t see ghosts, but she felt gusts of yin wind that were bone-chillingly cold even under the bright sun.

Xia Sheng found Director Huang’s phone and unlocked it with his fingerprint.

She deleted all the photos and videos from the phone and the cloud storage, then checked his WeChat.

There were several people who contacted Director Huang frequently; the content mostly consisted of nauseating comments and images.

She exited WeChat and removed the phone’s lock, intending to take it back to investigate who these people were and take them all down in one fell swoop.

Having done this, she took out her tools for drawing talismans and made a small Paper Figurine, which she stuck onto Director Huang.

Director Huang’s corpse stood up again. Under her manipulation, it got into the car and drove out of the area.

Han Yanran had seen many things today that she had never witnessed before, yet she was still shocked to see that the small Paper Figurine could actually control a human body.

“Miss Xia, where is that Paper Figurine taking Director Huang’s body?”

“To the roadside. In half an hour, Director Huang will ‘die in a car accident.'”

After saying this, she turned her gaze toward the ghosts gathered nearby-the ones who had just torn Director Huang’s Living Soul apart-and absorbed all the Baleful Qi from them.

These ghosts had harbored resentment for a long time and were already on the verge of becoming Fierce Ghosts.

After killing Director Huang today, the Baleful Qi on them had grown even heavier.

Once Xia Sheng absorbed the energy from them, the ghosts regained their clarity of mind.

Xia Sheng asked, “I can send you to the Underworld to reincarnate now. Are you willing?”

The ghosts looked at each other and eventually all nodded.

They had lingered in the human world because their obsession with seeking revenge against Director Huang had not been resolved.

Now that Director Huang was dead, their obsession was gone.

Xia Sheng didn’t waste any time. She directly summoned the Black and White Impermanence to take them away for reincarnation.

With everything settled, Xia Sheng turned to look at Han Yanran. “Are you wearing long sleeves and pants today because you have burns on your body?”

Han Yanran nodded.

These injuries were all from last night. Although they had already scabbed over, they were still very painful.

Xia Sheng said, “Come home with me. I have medicine there you can use.”

Han Yanran nodded and followed Xia Sheng home.

Xia Sheng gave Han Yanran the medicine left over from when she treated Mo Wei. Han Yanran took off her clothes, and Xia Sheng helped her apply it.

The hideous burns vanished the moment they touched the ointment, as if they had never existed.

Han Yanran stared at herself in the mirror for a long time before turning around to hug Xia Sheng, her emotions overwhelmed.

“Miss Xia, thank you… thank you…”

Han Yanran didn’t know what else to say, so she just kept thanking her repeatedly.

Xia Sheng raised her hand and patted her back, her voice soft.

“It’s all in the past now.”

Han Yanran’s tears burst forth again. “Mm!”
