Chapter 31
Chapter 31
The role the assistant director mentioned was the third female lead in the movie. The character was written with a pure and aloof vibe; if played well, it was guaranteed to garner significant popularity.
However, Shen Ze didn’t think the Little Celestial Master would ever agree.
The Little Celestial Master was a Little Immortal. How could she possibly care about a third-tier supporting role?
Given her status, if she were to act, she should be the female lead!
If she actually had any intention of entering the entertainment industry, his Uncle Nine would definitely invest in a blockbuster for her to star in within minutes!
Of course, Shen Ze only kept these thoughts to himself. Saying them out loud would be far too offensive to the people present.
“My friend has a family estate to inherit. She isn’t interested in acting.”
Hearing this, the assistant director sighed. “That’s a pity. Her face fits the role much better than the actress we currently have lined up.”
Once the food arrived and the others were busy chatting among themselves, Shen Ze lowered his voice and asked Xia Sheng, “Did you find that Female Ghost?”
Xia Sheng was eating, her cheeks puffed out like a squirrel’s. “I didn’t find her; she’s not here.”
“However, everyone present has the same Yin Energy on them as you do. They must have all been in contact with that Female Ghost, though the contact wasn’t deep.”
“The only people who would have regular interaction with all the lead actors would be the core crew members.”
“Aside from the people here, is there anyone else who has left a particularly strong impression on you?”
Xia Sheng had said a lot in one breath, so she picked up a bottle from the table and poured herself a glass of juice to drink.
The drink was fragrant and sweet. After finishing one glass, Xia Sheng couldn’t help but pour herself another.
Shen Ze pondered for a moment before saying, “Filming hasn’t officially started yet, so many crew members haven’t had much contact with the actors. The director didn’t come today; do you think the Female Ghost might be someone around him?”
“It’s possible.” Xia Sheng finished her second glass and reached for a third. “Where does that director live? Let’s go take a look.”
“Maybe tomorrow. Tomorrow is the official opening ceremony, so the crew and most of the actors will be there…”
Shen Ze stopped mid-sentence, suddenly noticing an empty bottle next to Xia Sheng’s hand. Seeing the flush on her face, a bad premonition rose in his heart.
“Little Celestial Master, how well can you hold your liquor?”
Xia Sheng had already had four glasses, and the alcohol was starting to hit her. A visible red glow bloomed on her porcelain-white face.
“Liquor? I’ve never had it before. I don’t know.”
“But you just drank four glasses.”
“Huh?? Wasn’t that juice?”
It tasted quite sweet to her.
Shen Ze: “…”
“That was wine.”
Xia Sheng waved her hand dismissively. “Relax, relax. I’ve had four glasses and I’m still perfectly clear-headed.”
Looking at Xia Sheng’s unusually relaxed state, Shen Ze didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. “Little Celestial Master, haven’t you heard of the term ‘delayed kick’? Once the alcohol really sets in, you might lose consciousness.”
“Don’t know it,” Xia Sheng said, reaching for the bottle again.
Shen Ze immediately stopped her and stood up to address the others. “I’m sorry, my friend is drunk. I’m going to take her home first. Let’s get together again when there’s another chance.”
Basically everyone there knew that Shen Ze was Shen Ninth Master’s nephew, so naturally, no one dared to make things difficult for him. They let him leave immediately, and the female lead even personally helped him get Xia Sheng into the car.
Shen Ze thanked her and drove out of the parking lot.
“Little Celestial Master, where do you live? I’ll take you back.”
Xia Sheng leaned quietly against the car window, motionless.
Shen Ze persistently asked a few more times until Xia Sheng suddenly snapped.
“So noisy!”
She complained impatiently and traced a Talisman in the air with a flick of her hand.
In the next instant, Shen Ze’s mouth felt as if it had been sealed shut; he couldn’t open it no matter how hard he tried.
Shen Ze wanted to cry but had no tears. Not daring to disturb the Little Celestial Master further, he drove straight back to his own villa.
From a distance, he saw his Uncle Nine’s car parked right at the villa entrance.”
“footnotes
The man stood tall and elegant, a cold and proud figure beside the car as he gave instructions to his subordinates.
Thinking about how he had allowed the Little Celestial Master to drink tonight due to his own negligence, Shen Ze felt an inexplicable pang of guilt.
Although his Uncle Nine had clearly stated that he only viewed the Little Celestial Master as a junior, even so, she was a girl who had just reached adulthood. Bringing her to a business dinner and letting her get this drunk was bound to make Uncle Nine angry.
Shen Ze slowed down, creeping his car into his courtyard as slowly as possible, trying his best to minimize his presence.
However, Shen Yanchen noticed him anyway.
“Shen Ze.”
Hearing his Uncle Nine’s voice, Shen Ze’s heart leaped into his throat. His whole body shuddered, and his foot jerked on the clutch, nearly sending the car crashing into the side wall.
He restarted the engine and pretended not to hear Shen Yanchen, continuing forward while secretly praying that his uncle wouldn’t come over.
“Shen Ze, stop the car.”
Shen Yanchen rarely used Shen Ze’s full name. Although his tone was calm, Shen Ze could hear the underlying warning in his voice.
He stopped the car and rolled down the window, forcing a smile that looked more like a grimace.
“Uncle Nine, you’re back from your business trip?”
The silencing talisman Xia Sheng had placed on him had worn off a few minutes ago, so he was finally able to speak.
Shen Yanchen ignored him, his gaze shifting past him to the young girl in the passenger seat.
Shen Ze tried to block his view like an ostrich burying its head in the sand, continuing to smile. “The Little Celestial Master is asleep. I’ll take her inside to rest first. You should also head back and get some sleep, Uncle Nine.”
As he spoke, Shen Yanchen had already walked to the car and pulled open the door on Xia Sheng’s side.
By the time Shen Ze thought to lock the doors, it was too late.
The door opened, and the smell of alcohol wafted out. Shen Yanchen frowned slightly.
He was a bit of a clean freak and didn’t smoke or drink.
Yet, smelling the alcohol on the girl didn’t disgust him; he was merely displeased that she had gotten this drunk while out.
Shen Yanchen’s cold, heavy gaze fell on Shen Ze. “Who gave her the alcohol?”
His expression was stern, carrying a natural authority, looking every bit the elder reprimanding an irresponsible junior.
Shen Ze braced himself and explained what had happened today. “I originally wanted to take the Little Celestial Master home, but she hit me with a silencing talisman.
“I was worried that if I disturbed her further, she might accidentally hurt me, so I brought her back here.”
After speaking, he glanced cautiously at Shen Yanchen. “Uncle Nine, do you know where the Little Celestial Master lives? Maybe you could have someone take her home.”
Shen Yanchen leaned down and lifted the girl out of the car. “I’ll have someone look into where she lives. You go inside.”
Xia Sheng felt a bit uncomfortable when she was suddenly picked up.
However, upon catching Shen Yanchen’s familiar scent, she fell into an even deeper sleep.
Shen Ze watched as if he had seen a ghost while his Uncle Nine naturally gathered the Little Celestial Master into his arms.
Since when did his uncle have this kind of physical contact with the opposite sex?
Logically, shouldn’t he have called a maid over to take Xia Sheng away?
And he claimed he wasn’t interested in her? Who was he trying to fool?
Worried that the Little Celestial Master was a lamb entering a tiger’s den tonight, Shen Ze summoned his courage. “Uncle Nine, the Little Celestial Master is a young girl after all. It’s not appropriate for you to take her back. Why don’t we let her stay at my place for now, and once Lu Ge finds her address…”
Under Shen Yanchen’s increasingly cold gaze, Shen Ze’s voice grew smaller and smaller until he finally shut his mouth.
After a few seconds of silence, Shen Ze admitted defeat. “Uncle Nine, please take good care of the Little Celestial Master. I’m heading in.”
With that, he drove off immediately.
Since Uncle Nine said he only viewed her as a junior, he probably wouldn’t do anything to her.
Shen Ze comforted himself with this thought, and the guilt in his heart finally eased a bit.
Anyway, once Lu Ge found out where the Little Celestial Master lived, Uncle Nine would send her back. It would surely be fine.
