Chapter 22
Chapter 22
Upon hearing those words, Wu Yuhan immediately looked over, her expression filled with undeniable joy. “Master, is what you’re saying true?”
She loved children dearly and had always wanted a child of her own with her husband. During their twenty years of marriage, she had sought medical help and traditional remedies everywhere. It had been incredibly difficult to conceive this child, only for her to lose it in a fall.
Even though Fang Nanan didn’t hold it against her, she felt an immense weight in her heart, fearing she might never have another chance.
Hearing Xia Sheng say this now, she nearly burst into tears from the excitement.
Xia Sheng said, “Your body is weak right now, but if you take care of yourself and recover properly, you will be able to have a smooth delivery when the time comes.”
Wu Yuhan knew Xia Sheng possessed profound Daoist skills and wouldn’t misread someone’s fortune. She said solemnly, “Alright, I understand. Thank you, Master.
“Master, you have helped us so much today. If there is ever anything you need from me in the future, just say the word, and I will do my absolute best to repay you.”
Xia Sheng replied lazily, “There’s no need for repayment. Just settle the appearance fee.”
“Of course.” Wu Yuhan turned to Fang Nanan and asked him to bring her phone. “Master, how much do you think is appropriate?”
“Two thousand will do.”
Xia Sheng’s fees were always based on fate; as long as it was enough to offset the karma, it sufficed.
Fang Nanan and Wu Yuhan had spent their lives doing good deeds and accumulating Merit, sponsoring many children from poor families. Even if she hadn’t made a special effort to help, the Merit these two possessed would have been enough to offset this particular misfortune.
Wu Yuhan paused for a moment but didn’t say much. She immediately sent a text to her assistant to arrange the transfer.
When the assistant saw the boss suddenly ‘return to life,’ they thought it was a scam. Only after calling to confirm did they process the transfer to Xia Sheng.
Xia Sheng’s phone chimed with a notification. She glanced at it; Wu Yuhan had actually transferred two million.
It seemed this woman wasn’t one for empty flattery or superficial gestures; she was a woman of direct action.
Xia Sheng didn’t stand on ceremony and accepted the full amount.
By the time she finished and left the hospital, it was only four in the afternoon.
Xia Sheng had no other plans for the moment, so she called Shen Yanchen to ask if he was free so she could head over to see him.
The Baleful Qi on Shen Yanchen’s body was extremely heavy and highly corrosive to protective talismans. To create a talisman that could be used by Shen Yanchen for a long time would require a massive amount of energy and soul power.
Xia Sheng was never one to deprive herself. Since being around Shen Yanchen allowed her to replenish her energy, she naturally wouldn’t be polite about it.
The voice on the other end of the line was deep and pleasant as he replied, “I’m free.”
Xia Sheng continued, “Where are you?”
“The company. My office.”
“I’ll come find you.”
“Alright.”
Neither of them was the talkative type. After their brief conversation, Shen Yanchen put his phone away.
Lu Ren sat in the driver’s seat, looking at the bustling main road outside the car, then back at his boss in the rear seat with a look of utter confusion.
This was the company? Since when did their company buy the entire Capital City? Was every single place an office now?
Lu Ren reminded him, “Ninth Master, President Zhao just called to say he’s already arrived at the International Trade Tower. You…”
Shen Yanchen’s voice was incredibly flat. “Leave the cooperation matters to yourself. I’m going back.”
“But…”
Lu Ren met his boss’s gaze in the rearview mirror and instantly shut his mouth.
Fine, fine. Can’t provoke him, can’t provoke him. Better just go.
…
Jiang Zhongqing and Xia Sheng had already reached the hospital entrance. He waited for her to finish her call before asking, “Little Celestial Master, where are you headed now? I’ll give you a lift.”
Xia Sheng casually stuffed her phone into her pocket and replied, “Feng Huai Group.”
Jiang Zhongqing’s footsteps faltered. “You’re going to see Shen Ninth Master?”
“Mhm, I have some business to handle.”
Hearing this, Jiang Zhongqing almost couldn’t resist giving her a thumbs-up. As expected of the Little Celestial Master-even Shen Ninth Master had things to ask of her.
When they arrived, Shen Yanchen’s secretary was already waiting downstairs. Seeing Xia Sheng step out of the car, the secretary walked over quickly. “You must be Miss Xia? President Shen asked me to come down and receive you. Please, follow me.”
Xia Sheng nodded and followed the secretary inside.
The walk from the entrance to the CEO’s private elevator took less than two minutes, but the secretary had already stolen several glances at Xia Sheng.
Once they entered the elevator, Xia Sheng spoke up. “Sister, is there something you want to ask?”
The girl’s voice was calm, yet it sounded as clear and pleasant as a light spring rain.
Hearing that “Sister,” the secretary felt as if her heart had been struck by a sniper’s bullet.
What a beautiful girl!
I just want to pull her into my arms and dote on her!
Suppressing her fluttering heart, the secretary cleared her throat and asked softly, “Is it convenient to ask why you’re looking for President Shen today?”
She had originally wanted to ask what the relationship was between Xia Sheng and Shen Yanchen. After all, in the three years she had worked at Feng Huai, she had never seen a young woman who wasn’t an employee enter the CEO’s office.
Furthermore, it seemed their boss had specifically rushed back halfway through his schedule just to wait for this girl.
However, asking directly would be too offensive, so she settled for this harmless question.
Xia Sheng replied matter-of-factly, “It’s not convenient.”
As it concerned a client’s privacy, Xia Sheng felt she had to help keep it a secret.
The secretary hadn’t expected the girl to be so blunt and couldn’t help but laugh.
What an interesting little sister.
“Miss Xia, has anyone ever told you that you’re very cute?”
Xia Sheng: “?”
Cute?
No one had ever said that.
Besides, she didn’t think she fell into the ‘cute’ category.
She felt she was more the type to have an intimidating six-foot-tall aura, looking fierce and malevolent.
Otherwise, the ghosts back in her hometown wouldn’t have fled in all directions with expressions like they’d seen a ghost whenever they saw her.
Seeing Xia Sheng’s bewildered expression, the secretary chuckled again.
The elevator doors opened, and the secretary led her to the office.
“President Shen, Miss Xia has arrived.”
Shen Yanchen sat behind a heavy executive desk and gave a slight nod.
As the secretary turned to leave and brushed past her, Xia Sheng casually slapped away the little ghost clinging to the secretary’s back.
This kind of little ghost meant no harm; it was simply instinctively drawn to the aura of the living. Leaving it alone wouldn’t cause any real damage, though it would make a person feel drowsy and lethargic.
The secretary suddenly felt her shoulders lighten, and her whole mind felt refreshed. She figured her mood had simply improved because she’d seen a pretty girl, and she found herself liking Xia Sheng even more.
Once the secretary had left, Shen Yanchen asked, “Was there something on her just now?”
Shen Yanchen could only vaguely see a thin patch of white mist, but he didn’t know what it was.
Xia Sheng placed her backpack on the guest sofa and replied calmly, “Yes, a little ghost.”
She took out the piece of jade she had bought that morning and a carving knife from her bag, then walked over to Shen Yanchen’s side. “Ninth Master, your string of Buddha Beads can no longer be repaired. I will make you a new protective talisman.
“Creating a protective talisman consumes a lot of energy. I need to absorb a bit of the Baleful Qi from your body. Is that alright?”
“It is.”
Having received his permission, Xia Sheng immediately pulled up a chair and sat down right next to Shen Yanchen, pressing close to him.
A faint, clean fragrance drifted from the girl, threads of it invading his sense of smell as she approached.
An inexplicable itch rose in Shen Yanchen’s heart. He suddenly said, “You don’t need to call me Ninth Master in the future. You can just call me by my name.”
Xia Sheng looked at him sideways in confusion. “Isn’t your name Shen Ninth Master?”
Shen Yanchen was stunned for a moment before he burst out laughing. “My name is Shen Yanchen. Others call me Ninth Master because I am the ninth child in my generation of the family.”
Xia Sheng realized the truth.
No wonder.
She had previously wondered why Shen Yanchen’s parents would give him such a strange name as ‘Ninth Master’.
“I’m friends with Shen Ze, and we’re close in age, so calling you by your name wouldn’t be appropriate. I’ll follow his lead and call you Uncle Nine.”
Uncle Nine?
Was she trying to be his niece?
But he was only seven years older than her!
However, according to family seniority, it wasn’t wrong for Xia Sheng to address him that way.
Shen Yanchen’s thin lips pressed into a straight line. After a long silence, he replied deeply, “…Fine.”
Xia Sheng glanced at him.
Why did Uncle Nine seem a bit unhappy?
