Chapter 19
Half an hour later, the two arrived at the hospital room where Fang Nanan’s wife was staying.
Because of his wife’s situation, Fang Nanan had been immersed in grief for the past few months, and his figure had grown noticeably thinner.
Seeing his friend arrive, he quickly walked up to Jiang Zhongqing, anxiously asking, “Old Jiang, where is the Master you mentioned? Why didn’t he come with you? Did I do something to offend him?”
Fang Nanan had never believed in gods or Buddha before, but after his wife’s accident and months of searching without finding the cause, his emotions were on the verge of collapse, and he had started to believe in anything.
During this time, he had visited every temple, big and small, around the Capital City, but hadn’t met a single Master who could save his wife.
He was nearly in despair, but yesterday Jiang Zhongqing mentioned a Master with profound Mystic Sect skills who had once saved his life. Fang Nanan immediately asked Jiang Zhongqing to bring this Master over.
From yesterday to today, every second of waiting had been torment for him.
Now, his friend had finally arrived, but apart from a young girl at his side, there was no one else. Fang Nanan began to panic, thinking that perhaps he had failed to personally welcome the Master and had caused offense.
Jiang Zhongqing glanced at Xia Sheng and said, “The Master I mentioned is this Little Celestial Master beside me.”
“What?” Fang Nanan was clearly stunned, his gaze shifting to Xia Sheng, who was following Jiang Zhongqing, his brows furrowing slightly. “Old Jiang, Yuhan’s condition is very serious. Don’t joke with me about this.”
The young girl behind his friend looked barely of age, with an innocent and inexperienced air. How could she possibly be a Master?
Jiang Zhongqing was a bit helpless. “Old Fang, we’ve been friends for so many years. Do I seem like someone who would joke about something this serious?
“This Little Celestial Master saved my life just a few days ago. She is absolutely trustworthy.”
Fang Nanan knew his friend’s character well and was sure he wouldn’t deceive him.
But looking at Xia Sheng’s youthful and inexperienced appearance, it was truly difficult to associate her with a Mystic Sect expert.
Half believing, half doubting, he said, “Sorry, I was being rash just now.”
As he spoke, he glanced at Xia Sheng again. “Master, can you tell what’s wrong with my wife? Is there any way to save her?”
He was now desperate, willing to try anything. Even though he doubted Xia Sheng’s abilities, he couldn’t afford to care about that anymore.
He and his wife had been childhood sweethearts, married for over twenty years.
When he first started his business as a young man, no one believed in him, but his wife stood by him through the toughest times.
They had walked together for more than forty years, and had long become indispensable parts of each other’s lives.
He truly couldn’t imagine what would happen if his wife never woke up again.
While the two spoke, Xia Sheng had been observing the woman on the hospital bed, and now she had reached a conclusion in her heart.
“Your wife was over seven months pregnant. Three months ago, when she went to your company to find you, she accidentally fell at the entrance, resulting in a miscarriage.
“After the miscarriage, your wife’s Living Soul left her body, which caused her to fall into a coma. Normally, when a Living Soul is separated for so long, the body should already be deteriorating.
“If you don’t summon her soul soon, your wife’s body will last at most another month. By then, not only will her body lose the ability to move, but her Soul Body will gradually dissipate as well.”
What Xia Sheng said was no different from what the previous Master had told him, and Fang Nanan was slightly surprised, but then he was convinced that Xia Sheng truly had some ability.
However, the previous times Fang Nanan invited Masters, they only managed to deduce this step, but were unable to summon back his wife’s Living Soul. Therefore, he did not hold much hope now, his face haggard as he asked, “Master, can you summon back my wife’s Living Soul?”
Xia Sheng did not give a direct answer, but instead asked, “Did the Mystic Sect practitioners you sought before me ever tell you why your wife’s Living Soul could not be summoned back?”
The art of soul summoning is not considered difficult within the Mystic Sect; even an ordinary Celestial Master can perform it.
If it were merely a simple case of the Living Soul leaving the body, it would be impossible that after three months, no one could retrieve Madam Fang’s Living Soul.
Fang Nanan replied, “They did say something, but their explanations varied. Some said my wife’s Living Soul might have gone too far to be summoned back, some said it might have been taken away by a Ghost Enforcer, and others said she might have already suffered Soul Dispersal…”
As he spoke, Fang Nanan couldn’t help but choke up.
He had always been unwilling to believe the latter two explanations, but he couldn’t help feeling distressed.
Seeing his emotional turmoil, Xia Sheng did not ask further. She took out Soul-Summoning Incense from her backpack, lit it, and attempted to summon the soul.
A few minutes passed, but there was no movement from the person on the bed.
Fang Nanan’s eyes reddened as he asked, “Master, did it fail?”
Xia Sheng replied, “Not exactly. At least we now know your wife’s Living Soul hasn’t dispersed; it’s just been trapped by someone.”
Fang Nanan was stunned at first, then asked excitedly, “You found my wife’s Living Soul? Where is she now?”
Xia Sheng said, “Give me your wife’s Birth Date and Time.”
Fang Nanan nodded and immediately pulled up a photo of the prepared information from his phone gallery.
Xia Sheng placed her backpack on the table, took out Talisman Paper, wrote the Birth Date and Time on it, and infused it with a trace of her own energy.
In the next moment, the Talisman Paper automatically folded itself into the shape of a small Paper Figurine. It seemed to come alive and stood up on the table.
The Paper Figurine walked a few clumsy steps and nearly fell over. Xia Sheng reached out to steady it.
The Paper Figurine wiggled its bottom and soon stood firmly.
Xia Sheng commanded, “Go, find Wu Yuhan.”
The Paper Figurine nodded, transformed into a streak of light, and vanished in an instant.
Seeing the Paper Figurine disappear, Fang Nanan hurriedly asked, “Master, how will we find Yuhan’s soul?”
Xia Sheng packed her things back into her backpack and said calmly, “That Paper Figurine carries my energy and is connected to me. Just follow me.”
Fang Nanan nodded and followed Xia Sheng out of the hospital room. Jiang Zhongqing also followed.
Following Xia Sheng’s instructions, Fang Nanan drove the car to the base of a high-end single apartment building.
He looked around but didn’t recognize any familiar buildings.
It seemed that none of the people he knew lived here.
“Master, who wants to harm my wife? None of my acquaintances live nearby.”
Xia Sheng replied, “It’s your Bad Romance.”
Fang Nanan frowned, “The only person around me is my wife. Where would a Bad Romance come from?”
“You may not intend to pick the flower, but someone is longing to enter your home.”
As they spoke, the three of them stopped in front of Apartment 502.
Fang Nanan didn’t ask further and pressed the doorbell directly.
