Chapter 10
The other girl was clearly unwilling to stir up trouble. She stammered, “I don’t really know the details, I just vaguely remember someone mentioning it in the group.”
Weiwei seemed to want to say something more, but when she saw Xia Sheng coming out of the restroom, she immediately squeezed past her and went in.
Xia Sheng sensed a strange aura on Weiwei. She had originally intended to read her fortune, but seeing how rude she was, she decided against it.
Some fates can be read, some not; some words can be spoken, some not.
Some people need to suffer a little before they learn restraint.
Walking out of the restroom, Xia Sheng noticed a man standing in the corridor.
The man looked to be in his early twenties, his complexion rather pale. He was tall and thin, with heavy dark circles under his eyes.
He didn’t seem to be in good spirits, but it couldn’t hide his air of reckless arrogance.
He seemed to be waiting for someone, leaning against the wall, idly scrolling through his phone.
He carried the same aura as the girl from earlier.
Both bore the Yin Energy left behind after contact with a Fierce Ghost.
However, the girl she met in the restroom was clearly someone who raised ghosts, while the man before her was a victim.
The man noticed her gaze, looked up, and raised an eyebrow. “Something you need?”
Xia Sheng walked up to him. “Have you been suffering from insomnia since last week, feeling drained, waking up in the middle of the night with sleep paralysis, and always seeing a White-Clothed Woman standing by your bed whose face you can’t make out?”
Shen Ze froze for a moment. “How do you know that?”
Since a certain day last week, Shen Ze’s mental state had deteriorated. He was often tense, broke out in cold sweats, and felt extremely weak.
He had eaten all sorts of tonics, but nothing helped.
The strangest thing was that he would inexplicably wake up in the middle of the night every day.
And every time he woke, there was always a White-Clothed Woman standing by his bed, her face indistinct, staring at him with a chilling gaze.
He had tried many times to ask who she was, but his body felt pinned down, unable to move.
Even when he opened his mouth, not a word would come out.
Not long ago, he had gone to see a doctor. The doctor said it was probably sleep paralysis caused by stress, and the woman by his bed was likely a hallucination from his dreams.
The doctor prescribed some medication for his nerves and told him to rest more and adjust his mood, assuring him the symptoms would soon disappear.
But a week had passed, and his symptoms hadn’t eased in the slightest-in fact, he was growing weaker.
Yet he hadn’t mentioned any of this to anyone. How did this woman in front of him know?
“I specialize in fortune-telling and exorcising ghosts,” Xia Sheng explained casually. “The woman you see every night is a Fierce Ghost being worshipped by someone. She’s feeding on your vital energy.
“If this goes on, your body will grow weaker and weaker, until you eventually die quietly without a trace.”
Shen Ze shuddered at her words and straightened up.
“Are you kidding? Where in the world are there ghosts?”
“I’m not joking.” Xia Sheng handed him an Evil-Warding Talisman. “Carry this Evil-Warding Talisman with you. It will ward off evil and protect your life.”
Shen Ze was taken aback, then suddenly laughed. “So you’re a salesperson? I’ve seen people selling insurance and health products, but this is the first time I’ve seen someone selling Talismans.
“Little girl, practicing feudal superstition can get you arrested. You’d better not go around scamming people.”
Xia Sheng was used to being doubted, her expression always calm. “If you don’t believe me, then forget it.”
She always helped people as fate allowed, never forcing it.
She put the Talisman away and prepared to leave.
“Hey, wait!” Shen Ze called out to her on impulse. “I’ll buy the Talisman. How much is it?”
Xia Sheng: “It’s free.”
Shen Ze was skeptical. “That good?”
Xia Sheng nodded seriously. “Because you’ll come to pay me tomorrow. Consider this Talisman a trial coupon.”
Shen Ze couldn’t help but laugh.
Even fortune-tellers are doing promotions these days?
There’s even a trial coupon?
“You’re that sure I’ll contact you again?”
“Absolutely.”
Seeing how confident she was, Shen Ze thought of the White-Clothed Woman standing by his bed at night and shivered again for no reason.
“Fine, I’ll take the Talisman for now, but I doubt I’ll need to find you again.”
Xia Sheng made no comment, handed him the Talisman Paper, and exchanged contact information with him.
Shen Ze saved Xia Sheng’s number and joked, “Be honest, young lady-did you fall for me at first sight and make up this story just to get my number?”
Xia Sheng glanced at him lightly. “You have an ordinary but confident kind of beauty.”
Shen Ze: “…”
Was she calling him an average guy with an inflated ego?
He was the campus heartthrob of their department, okay!?
The girls chasing after him could form a line all the way to Country F!
He wanted to argue, but Xia Sheng had already turned and left decisively.
Shen Ze felt a bit frustrated.
His phone rang. He picked it up, glanced at the screen, and answered.
“Lu Ge, why are you calling me all of a sudden?”
Lu Ren’s voice was a little hoarse: “Didn’t you ask me last time to check if there were any job openings at the company for your senior?
“The planning department is looking to recruit an intern. He can come and try out. If he passes, we won’t open the position to the public.”
Shen Ze was most afraid of his Uncle Nine. Normally, he didn’t dare talk to him directly, so he always asked Lu Ren for help.
“Alright, thanks, Lu Ge.” After speaking, Shen Ze noticed something off about Lu Ren’s voice and asked, “Lu Ge, have you been crying? Your voice sounds a bit strange.”
Lu Ren snapped, “You’re the one who’s been crying. I just caught a cold!”
Shen Ze didn’t expose him and changed the subject. “Lu Ge, just now a young lady read my fortune. She said I might die and gave me a Talisman Paper. She also said I’d definitely go to her for help again tomorrow. Isn’t that hilarious?”
Lu Ren paused slightly and asked, “Is that young lady especially pretty, always has a cold expression, and looks a bit dazed?”
Shen Ze was startled. “How did you know? Lu Ge, can you tell fortunes too?”
“Me? Tell fortunes? I was read by her!” Lu Ren’s tone grew a bit agitated. “How did she find you? Did she figure out you know me?
“You probably don’t know about my first love cheating on me and wanting me to be her rebound, right?”
Shen Ze: “…”
“Well, I didn’t know before, but now I do.”
Lu Ren: “…”
Grass, just a plant.
Shen Ze continued, “Did she predict yesterday that your first love was cheating? What happened?”
Lu Ren: “Turns out, when I got home last night, I found out I was about to be a dad-except it was someone else’s kid.”
He hadn’t believed it back on Ancient Street, but the seed of doubt had been planted, so he started paying more attention to his first love.
During their dinner date last night, his first love got a call, deliberately left the restaurant to answer it in secret.
He followed and overheard her begging another man to get back together, saying she was already pregnant and wanted him to take responsibility.
She was obviously treating him as a backup!
Damn, he wanted to cry again.
Shen Ze: It was tragic, but he still wanted to laugh.
Lu Ren said seriously, “That young lady really has some skills. I think you’d better keep that Talisman Paper with you. If something happens, it’ll ward off disaster. If nothing happens, carrying it won’t hurt.”
If Xia Sheng hadn’t warned him yesterday, he might have really married that woman who was just using him.
Now that he’d broken up with his first love, he actually felt grateful to Xia Sheng.
Shen Ze thought Lu Ren made sense, so he gave up the idea of throwing away the Talisman Paper.
After the call ended, Lu Ren sighed, picked up the takeout he’d ordered for Shen Yanchen, and headed into the CEO’s office.
After placing the food on the coffee table, Lu Ren couldn’t help but say, “Ninth Master, do you know who Young Master Ze ran into today?”
Shen Yanchen stood up from behind his desk, walked over to the sofa, and sat down. His handsome features were calm and indifferent. “Who?”
“The Little Celestial Master we met on Ancient Street yesterday.”
Shen Yanchen glanced at him. “Not calling her a little swindler anymore?”
Lu Ren pulled a long face. “I didn’t know about the Little Celestial Master’s abilities yesterday, did I?”
Who would’ve thought that young lady was so impressive, able to tell so much with just a glance?
Thinking of the young lady they’d met on Ancient Street yesterday, Shen Yanchen’s lips suddenly curled, a faint smile appearing on his thin lips. He spoke slowly, “What did she say to Ze?”
Lu Ren recounted Shen Ze’s story. Shen Yanchen didn’t seem worried at all that his nephew might be in trouble. He simply instructed calmly, “Let the security department know. If she comes to see me in the future, let her in directly.”
Lu Ren was puzzled. “The Little Celestial Master doesn’t know you. She probably won’t come to see you, right?”
Shen Yanchen unwrapped the takeout, his pleasant voice low and magnetic: “Who knows?”
