Chapter 9
“I don’t have time to talk to you right now.” My tone softened a bit. “Can you give me some time? Whatever it is, I’ll find you tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow? Will you still be here tomorrow? Where are you going, Xu Xin, the train station? What are you doing at the train station? You don’t want to make a deal with me, and you don’t want to face the consequences, so you’re trying to run away?”
“Chen Suiyuan, I won’t run. I’ll face all of this. Besides, even if I ran, would all this really be over?”
“Yes, you’re very smart, but you still shouldn’t head toward the train station, and you’re driving so fast, making me worry for no reason.” He smiled with satisfaction. “Xu Xin, look in the rearview mirror.”
I turned my head. A familiar Cayenne, its window rolled down, a hand stretched out, making a gun gesture at me.
What a persistent ghost.
“Turn, take the road I tell you to, or I’ll crash into you.”
This was on the elevated expressway. I couldn’t be sure whether he’d really risk his life, so I didn’t dare take the chance.
I slowed the car and turned into the alley he pointed out.
“And then? Where do I go next?” Before I finished speaking, the car jolted, and I heard a “whoosh.”
The tire had blown out.
“Get out of the car. Come sit next to me.” On the phone, Chen Suiyuan, behind me, gave his next instruction with satisfaction. All of this was nothing more than another carefully planned step of his.
Just to prove how futile my desperate resistance really was.
Last time it was Liang An who got a scraped knee. This time, it’s my tire that blew out. What about next time? Who will bleed, or even die?
I sat in the driver’s seat, gasping for breath. After a long while, I gave up struggling, dragging my feet as I got into his car.
“I’m afraid you’ll run, there’s nothing I can do about it. Please understand me.” Chen Suiyuan brushed the messy hair from my forehead, gazing at my terrified eyes. “You’re going to the train station, right? And driving yourself? Going to pick someone up? Let me take you. I haven’t met your friend yet.”
What right did he have to meet my friend? Besides, it was my mother.
I lowered my head and whispered, “Fine. But can I meet her alone?”
He lifted my chin, satisfied. “Fine, but you have to stay within my line of sight.”
