When Lu Che got home, the uproar in the group chat was winding down.

No one knows what Gu Siyin said to the Song siblings, but Song Zhimeng, like an idiot, stormed back into the chat, teaming up with Joni to throw sly, sarcastic jabs at me.

These heiresses born with a golden spoon in their mouths have a pitifully small vocabulary. Their insults are always the same few lines-I’m honestly bored of it.

So, out of kindness, I posted a link in the group.

Nidie: “Complete Digital Insult Handbook, pxx – new users get ¥10 off their first order, my treat. Zhimeng, Joni.”

Just as I sent that, I heard the sound of a key turning in the door.

Lu Che didn’t even have time to change his shoes. He put the flowers and cake on the table, strode over, and hugged me tightly.

“I’m sorry about today, Manman.” His hot breath brushed against my neck. I reached up to pinch the back of his neck, trying to make him let go.

“No,” Lu Che said, aggrieved, hugging me even tighter. “Don’t scold me yet, let me explain.”

I opened my mouth, but the words got stuck in my throat.

That was some impressive anticipation.

Lu Che nuzzled me a few times before finally speaking: “I read all the chat logs. This was Yinyin’s fault, but I’m responsible too.”

I pushed him away and sat down at the dining table, unmoved.

Lu Che followed, sticking close: “I shouldn’t have lied about working overtime, and I shouldn’t have let Yinyin act out. I saw that photo-the caption was definitely inappropriate. I’ve already scolded her.

“And what Zhimeng and the others said in the group, none of it was nice. I’ll make them apologize to you.”

Seeing me look at him, Lu Che quickly flashed a sycophantic smile: “Of course, I need to apologize to Manman too. After all, it all started because of me.”

“Oh? How do you plan to apologize?”

I propped my chin up, glancing at him coolly.

Lu Che grinned: “Whatever you say goes-anything you want!”

“Really? And what about your Yinyin?” I changed the subject deliberately, bringing up Gu Siyin.

A hint of hesitation flashed across Lu Che’s face.

He squatted down and took my hand, pursing his lips: “Manman, Yinyin went a bit too far this time.

“I asked her about it. She said she’s always seen me as her brother, gotten used to me treating her well, and your arrival made her jealous, so she couldn’t help but act out.”

As he spoke, he looked up at me cautiously, searching for any reaction on my face.

“Yinyin promised it won’t happen again. She’ll apologize to you too.”

I smiled, but didn’t reply right away.

Whether Gu Siyin sees him as a brother or a husband, I’ll reserve judgment for now.

What matters more to me is what Lu Che thinks.

I’ve never relied on him for anything. I’m with him because I genuinely like him, which is why I have the guts to tear into Gu Siyin and her little clique.

But liking him doesn’t mean I’ll let Lu Che off the hook.

Just like he said-it all started because of him.

In those few seconds debating whether to scold him or flip the table first, I decided to hear him out.

If he hadn’t realized his mistake, or sided with anyone but me, I swear I’d throw the plate of fish-flavored shredded pork on his head.

Not that it’d be a waste, the dish was burnt anyway.

I didn’t expect Lu Che to be so clear-headed. Not only did he know he was wrong, he knew exactly what he’d done, how to apologize and make amends, and how to fix things at the root.

I lowered my head, studying his face-from his deep-set eyes and nose to his full, red lips.

No denying it, Lu Che is a perfect boyfriend in every way.

After all his pleading and puppy-like antics, I smiled and ruffled his soft hair:

“Lu Che, don’t let it happen again.”

I’m a very vengeful person. With me, nothing is ever just forgotten-it’s always archived.

I’ll mercifully give the offender one chance. I just hope he never gives me a reason to settle old and new scores all at once.
