Chapter 7

After getting into the car, I looked at the slight swelling on his cheek and couldn’t help but ask, “Did Zhou Jin really hit you?”

Song Zhiyuan turned his head and gave a cold sneer. “Did you tell Zhou Jin that we divorced because I was seeing someone else?”

“It was a misunderstanding,” I explained hurriedly. “He filled in the blanks himself. You know what he’s like-he’s always been all brawn and no brains since we were kids.”

Song Zhiyuan watched me in silence for a moment before starting the car.

“By the way, why did you bring me medicine?”

I had to get this straight.

He was the one who brought up the divorce, yet now he was the one playing this game of staying entangled. I, Wen Shu, was not the kind of woman who could be toyed with by such petty favors.

Song Zhiyuan was silent for a while. “I was bored.”

“…” I was suddenly at a loss for words.

He had that talent-the ability to kill a conversation at any moment.

The atmosphere in the car turned awkward instantly. Fortunately, my phone rang just then.

It was Grandma. She wanted me to come home for lunch, saying there was something we needed to discuss.

So, I had Song Zhiyuan change direction and head back to the Wen Family Old Mansion.

Grandma had bought the land and built the mansion herself after earning her first pot of gold in business. To save money back then, she hadn’t even hired an architect. She just drew a floor plan herself and winged the construction.

The house had five floors in total. From a distance, it looked both tacky and ostentatious.

Before the car even reached the house, I could see Grandma waiting at the courtyard gate from afar.

Song Zhiyuan pulled over, preparing to leave. However, Grandma leaned against the car window and asked if he wanted to join us for lunch.

I was just about to decline on his behalf when Song Zhiyuan already stepped out of the car.

“I happen to be hungry.”

As soon as he got out, Grandma noticed the injury on his face. “How did your face get so swollen?” she asked, her voice full of concern.

“Zhou Jin hit me,” Song Zhiyuan answered with brutal honesty.

Grandma’s expression immediately turned serious upon hearing that.

Song Zhiyuan, meanwhile, started walking toward the house.

Inside, the servants had already laid out a full spread of dishes. My parents and my brother were there too.

The whole family was gathered around the table.

My brother’s company had a partnership with Song Zhiyuan, so the two of them kept talking about investment projects. My dad would chime in occasionally.

My mom, on the other hand, asked if I had taken a liking to anyone at the blind date banquet yesterday.

Thinking about Song Zhiyuan sitting right there, I felt it was a bit awkward to discuss such things.

“Why are you looking at him? Since you’re divorced, it’s none of his business who you’re with from now on,” my mom said, clearly annoyed by my hesitation.

Grandma nodded and turned to Song Zhiyuan, who was in the middle of discussing business. “Xiao Yuan, now that you and our Shu Shu are divorced, do you have a new girlfriend?”

Song Zhiyuan paused, glanced at me, and smiled. “I have eight.”

“…” Would it kill him not to brag?

“Pfft!” My brother sprayed out all the black chicken soup he had just sipped.

“Sorry, couldn’t help it.”

My mom also covered her mouth, stifling a laugh. My dad lowered his head, trying to suppress his own amusement.

Only Grandma was concerned about my feelings. “There are plenty of men out there,” she comforted me. “If one doesn’t work out, we’ll just find another.”

“Yeah.”

Three years ago, when Zhou Jin and I broke up, she had comforted me the same way. It was just that I could never learn to be as carefree as she was.

Song Zhiyuan was right about me.

I was just high-maintenance.
