Chapter 4

Late at night, I returned to my bedchamber.

Eunuch Li was standing alone in the hall.

I stopped in my tracks, my voice trembling slightly with a sense of dread for the unknown.

“Tell me, you arranged someone else, right?”

Eunuch Li pointed toward the bed.

“The person is on the bed. What are you thinking, Your Highness?”

Thank goodness. As long as it was someone else, it was fine.

I rushed to the bedside and whipped back the quilt.

The man beneath it had sharp, striking features and an excellent physique. His hands and feet were bound, and he was gagged.

His eyes were burning with absolute fury.

I had the nagging feeling I had seen him somewhere before.

“This is the guard Your Highness spared an extra glance for while walking on the road earlier,”

Eunuch Li said, looking quite proud of himself. “Observe my professional competence. Whatever person or matter my masters take note of, this servant never forgets.”

It dawned on me then. It was him.

Why had I looked at him twice back then…?

Ah! I remembered.

I quickly dismissed Eunuch Li.

Once he was gone, I pulled the cloth gag out of the man’s mouth.

He was highly agitated, his breathing ragged and the corners of his eyes flushed red.

“Is this how your court treats its guests?”

“Crown Prince of Zhou, I have offended you. This is all a complete misunderstanding.”

The reason I had looked at him twice was because he was the Crown Prince of Zhou, here for the marriage alliance.

Anyone would take a second look if they saw their prospective marriage partner dressed up as a guard.

The Crown Prince of Zhou had clearly been drugged.

So, while I felt very sorry, I still had to keep him tied up to ensure my own safety.

I gagged him again and covered him up properly with the quilt.

This would have to do for tonight; I would send him away tomorrow.

Suddenly, someone vaulted through the window. Startled, I sat frozen on the edge of the bed, not daring to move.

The intruder was dressed in night-traveling clothes. When he turned around-

It was actually Jiang Xingzhou.

The Crown Prince of Zhou, sensing someone’s arrival, began struggling desperately under the covers, letting out faint whimpers.

The situation was incredibly awkward.

Jiang Xingzhou was sharp-eared and keen-eyed, yet he acted as if he noticed nothing.

He asked me, “Your Highness, do you think I am handsome?”

As soon as those words left his mouth, the Crown Prince of Zhou stopped struggling.

He was probably speechless.

I was so nervous that I could only offer a fake smile. “Handsome, very handsome.”

Jiang Xingzhou’s expression softened. He was just about to speak when-

Suddenly, there was a violent pounding on the door.

“Imperial Younger Sister, forgive my late-night visit, but please open the door quickly! I have urgent business!”

Heavens, why was my Imperial Elder Brother here?

What kind of chaotic mess was this?
