He was a face I had never seen before.
My heart couldn’t help but tighten in my chest.
While everyone else’s incense caught fire the moment it was lit, his simply refused to burn.
After entering, he didn’t engage in small talk like the other guests. Instead, he maintained a forced air of nonchalance while scanning his surroundings. When his icy gaze suddenly swept over me, a nameless chill shot straight to my head.
As he was leaving, I summoned my courage and stopped him. “Mister, wait a moment.”
Under his guarded gaze, I handed him the brocade pouch.
“My elder’s dying wish was for this to be given to you.”
