Chapter 12

Half an hour later, at a café.

Lin Wanru rushed into the private room, her voice frantic with anxiety. “How did she find out? Did you let something slip-”

She froze as if struck by lightning when she saw me step out from behind the screen.

Years ago, during a drinking session in our dorm, I had drunkenly mentioned the brocade pouches.

They had been curious about why I cherished them like precious treasures.

I told them they were heirlooms left to me by my grandmother, and that I could only open the second one on my wedding day.

I stared at her, my gaze icy. “Why did you do it? Where is my brocade pouch!”

Lin Wanru regained her composure and lifted her chin, no longer needing to feign intimacy or kindness. “Why? You knew I liked Gu Weizhi, so why did you keep leading him on?”

“Whether it’s family background, looks, or personality, I’m better than you in every way. What right do you have to compete with me?”

It felt as if I were looking at a complete stranger.

It turned out that the person I had trusted unconditionally all these years was a fraud.

“Heh, did you expect me to just break you two up directly? Are you even worth that? That’s what low-class women do. I wanted to let time prove that I am the partner better suited for Weizhi.”

She had a father who was a high court judge and a mother who ran a corporation. Once we left campus, the gap between us would be as vast as the clouds and the mud.

“But why does Gu Weizhi still only want you?” Jealousy completely distorted her face. “I dropped hints repeatedly, but Weizhi wouldn’t budge. He wouldn’t even let me sit in the passenger seat! Even after you ran away from the wedding, he actually forgave you. He said you must have had your reasons. What makes you so special!”

“I knew how much you cared about that brocade pouch, so while I was helping you try on wedding dresses last time, I swapped it!”

She clutched her stomach and doubled over with laughter.

“But who would have thought you’d actually run away!”

Before my grandmother passed away, she left me three brocade pouches.

“On the seventh day after my death, give these to the seventh person who offers incense.”

On the day...
