Chapter 7
Chapter 7
The best way to quickly forget an old relationship is to start a new one.
I took my mother’s words to heart.
I had already experienced marriage and had a child; no matter how much heartache I might face again, it would never surpass the psychological blow Liang Xu had dealt me.
My parents were even more enthusiastic about me dating Xiao Musheng than I was.
They invited him over for lunch and dinner every day, then pushed us out the door to go on dates afterward.
Whether it was the latest movie release or a local event, they knew about it.
In just one month, I went on more solo dates with Xiao Musheng than I had with Liang Xu throughout our entire eight-year marriage.
“I’d like to take Yangyang to the amusement park. Would that be okay?”
Xiao Musheng made the suggestion during breakfast over the weekend.
My parents and I were all momentarily stunned.
Yangyang blinked his large, grape-like eyes and pleaded in a sweet, milky voice.
“Mommy, I want to go! Let Uncle Xiao take me!”
“Yes, of course you can!”
My mother was the first to snap out of it, her face beaming with joy. My father immediately nodded in agreement.
“The three of you go to the amusement park. We’ll head to the market to pick up some groceries and have a feast waiting for you when you get back.”
Yangyang jumped down from his chair, dancing around with excitement.
“Yay! We’re going to the amusement park! The amusement park!!”
Xiao Musheng scooped the little guy up and spun him around in the air.
“Off we go to fly on a plane with Yangyang!”
Yangyang’s giggles grew even louder.
“And I want ice cream!”
“Alright, I’ll buy Yangyang ice cream!”
The heartwarming scene before me left me in a daze for a moment.
Liang Xu was a man who cared deeply about the return on investment.
He believed that playing had very little value.
Because of this, he used to fill Yangyang’s weekends with English lessons, violin, and Taekwondo, packing his schedule to the brim.
I, on the other hand, believed that a child’s childhood shouldn’t be consumed by such things so early on.
In truth, we had disagreements regarding both our outlook on life and our parenting philosophies.
But I had thought we could communicate and find a solution.
I never expected that he would be the first to grow tired of the relationship.
He chose to solve the problem by getting rid of me.

The Younger Man I’m Not Supposed to Love
At thirty-five, I experienced a cliff-drop divorce.
In truth, it wasn’t entirely without warning.
