Chapter 5
Chapter 5
“We just met on a blind date. Isn’t this moving a bit too fast?”
“Officer Jiang, you just checked my personal records last week.”
Xiao Musheng gave a slight smile, leaning in close again.
“As for not being familiar with each other, we’ll get there with time.”
I didn’t care for this kind of sudden advance. I tried to push him away, but he pinned my hands down.
The overwhelming pheromones of a young man flooded my senses.
They surged into my lungs with every breath-aggressive and intense.
It was an unfamiliar scent, a fresh sensation.
My body didn’t reject it.
Humans are visual creatures, after all.
Objectively speaking, Xiao Musheng was incredibly handsome.
He had thick brows, a high bridge to his nose, and a well-defined bone structure.
Standing nearly 190 centimeters tall, he possessed the kind of looks that women from ages eight to eighty could appreciate.
The day Liang Xu mentioned divorce, I packed my things and moved back to my parents’ house.
A few days later, my mother excitedly told me that the hot pot restaurant near our complex had a new owner.
His Golden Retriever had gone missing, and every woman in the neighborhood had helped look for it.
Just yesterday, my mother very proudly announced that she had beaten out countless other old ladies to secure this blind date for me.
At dinner time, Xiao Musheng arrived at our door with a bottle of Moutai and a box of Longjing tea.
I was stunned when I saw him.
Last week, a man had been stalking a high school girl coming home from evening self-study.
The girl had been pale with fright. I had chased after them, only to find two men fighting.
Coincidentally, both were wearing black jackets and jeans.
It was dark, and the girl couldn’t identify which one had been following her.
I took both men back to the station for questioning.
When I pulled up Xiao Musheng’s file, I saw he had a record for fighting when he was fourteen and had even spent time in juvenile detention.
After that, he seemed to have turned over a new leaf; his records were clean.
The other man, however, had an extensive criminal history: surreptitious filming, stalking, and molesting young girls.
Combined with the surveillance footage my colleagues pulled, it was confirmed that Xiao Musheng had just stepped out of a convenience store when he heard the girl’s cry and rushed over to help.
By the time I finished work, it was already midnight.
Xiao Musheng walked up to my side.
“Officer Jiang, I’m heading your way. Let me give you a ride.”

The Younger Man I’m Not Supposed to Love
At thirty-five, I experienced a cliff-drop divorce.
In truth, it wasn’t entirely without warning.
I am a police officer and Liang Xu is a prosecutor; in the eyes of others, we...
