Chapter 1
Chapter 1
After more than a month, I returned home.
A young girl opened the door.
When we divorced, I didn’t ask for the house.
Between marriage, pregnancy, childbirth, and parenting, too many things had accumulated in that house. Packing it all up in a short time meant things would inevitably be left behind.
“Big Sister, I’ve packed up the things you wanted.”
The girl was pretty and fresh-faced, her voice sweet and soft.
Liang Xu naturally picked up the suitcase, acting just like the dutiful husband he had been during our eight-year marriage.
That is, if one ignored the hickey on his neck and the girl’s bright red knees.
It was obvious that the two of them had just finished a heated session before I arrived.
“Big Sister, Liang Xu bought this, but we don’t have any use for it. I thought you might still need it.”
The girl smiled as she pulled a tube of lubricant from the pocket of her silk robe.
Her little scheme couldn’t possibly be hidden from a policeman and a lawyer.
Liang Xu looked a bit helpless, yet indulgent.
His lips parted as if to speak, but in the end, he said nothing.
Although we were divorced, it had been an amicable split, and we shared a son.
Because of the child, future interactions were unavoidable. Whether his little girlfriend wanted to flaunt their affection or mark her territory, it was understandable.
I reached out and took the lubricant.
“Mhm. Money was spent on it; it shouldn’t go to waste.”
Liang Xu’s tone was gentle.
“Do you want to come inside and see if there’s anything else you missed?”
“No need. If there is, it’s not important. Just throw it away.”
“I’ll walk you out.”
“No thanks, someone is waiting for me downstairs.”
A flash of surprise crossed Liang Xu’s eyes, but with his girlfriend standing right there, he didn’t press further.
“Goodbye.”
I turned to leave.
“Yangyang said there’s a parent-teacher meeting next week.”
Liang Xu’s voice suddenly came from behind me.
“Jiang Ning, if you’re busy, I can go,” he added. “My work schedule is more flexible.”
I didn’t stop or look back.
“Yangyang is staying with my mother. You should talk to her about it.”
Hearing this, Liang Xu immediately abandoned his girlfriend and hurried after me.
“Yangyang isn’t living with you?!”
I blinked, startled by his questioning tone.
“No. My mother said she’d help me look after Yangyang so I could get settled first.”
What I didn’t mention was that my mother wanted me to hurry up and find someone new as well.

At thirty-five, I experienced a cliff-drop divorce.
In truth, it wasn’t entirely without warning.
