Chapter 2

Li Xiuyi was the person I fell for when I first experienced the stirrings of love in high school.

Back then, he was so dazzlingly flamboyant that no one could ignore him.

I was no exception.

And so, I confessed to him.

“Li Xiuyi, can I be your girlfriend?”

Li Xiuyi looked at me, his eyes filled with indifference.

“Number one in the class? I don’t like good students.”

Because of that one sentence from him, my young, reckless self did a lot of ridiculous things.

I dyed my hair, got piercings, got tattoos, skipped classes, and spent my nights at bars.

I started hanging around with Li Xiuyi and his crowd.

Until one day, he showed up in front of us with a girl dressed in snow-white clothes.

He said, “Let me introduce you. This is my girlfriend.”

I suddenly understood. It wasn’t that he didn’t like good students; he just didn’t like me.

Li Xiuyi was never devoted, yet he was always in love.

He had many girlfriends.

Later, during our sophomore year of college, I got engaged to him.

Skipping the stage of being boyfriend and girlfriend, we went straight to being a betrothed couple.

This struck a nerve with him.

He once pinned me by the throat and demanded, “Are you really so unscrupulous just to be with me? Do you even realize that I will never love you?”

How did I answer him back then?

Oh, right. I remember now.

I told him, “It doesn’t matter. I don’t need you to like me. I only need you to marry me.”

From our sophomore year until now, Li Xiuyi has been my fiancé for six years.

During these six years, his scandalous behavior never stopped.

He flirted and dated various women.

Sometimes, I even went to clean up his messes for him.

And every time, I only asked him one question: “Did you sleep with her?”

“What if I did? What if I didn’t?”

I told him, “If you slept with her, you’d be free.”

But he was strange.

Despite the countless women fluttering around him, he never actually touched them.

I have no idea what he was holding out for.
