Chapter 6

With a simple swipe of his ghostly claws, the Beheaded Ghost tore the Hanged Ghost’s tongue in two.

The severed portion was devoured in a few bites by the Doll.

Outside the window, the Hanged Ghost took the opportunity to flee.

The Beheaded Ghost didn’t bother to give chase. “I practice the righteous path and do not kill,” he said. “You got lucky!”

As soon as he finished speaking, he felt a sudden chill down his spine and whipped his head around.

He saw the Doll staring at him with ill intent…

Outside the house, various malevolent spirits began to manifest one after another.

Old and young, their faces were hideous and distorted.

The ghosts crowded together, shoulder to shoulder, lunging toward Old Li and Deaf Granny in a chaotic mass.

The incense ash Deaf Granny had scattered was rapidly being consumed amidst a flurry of crackling pops.

Though the two elders were fighting with everything they had, there were simply too many ghosts.

Furthermore, many among them were century-old spirits.

Old Li and Deaf Granny stood back-to-back, retreating inch by inch until they were under the eaves of the roof.

“Sanwa, we can’t hold them back anymore!”

“Take your wife and run!”

“Remember to run to the old pine tree at the East Mountain Peak!”

Wang San jumped down from the roof, still holding the Great Seal high with one hand.

“Mother, I’m not running!”

“You take my wife and run. Old Uncle Li and I will help you block these filthy things!”

Before Deaf Granny could respond, the Beheaded Ghost flew out, carrying the Doll.

However, the head the Beheaded Ghost was holding now had a vacant expression; it had clearly been brought under the Doll’s control.

When the crowd of ghosts saw the Extreme Yin Child, their ferocity peaked instantly. They howled, preparing to possess his body.

The ghosts were fast, but this newborn Doll was faster.

With a giggle, he actually burrowed back into the belly of the dead woman!

The Female Corpse instantly bolted upright, a wheezing sound emanating from her throat.

Her ashen eyes scanned the surroundings as foul-smelling saliva dripped from her mouth!

A sound like grinding gravel came from the Female Corpse’s throat before she lunged violently at the ghosts.

Screams and the sound of tearing flesh echoed through the night sky.

Deaf Granny’s jaw dropped in shock.

“This Doll is this fierce?!”

“He’s this powerful right after being born. Just how terrifyingly wicked will he become in the future?!”

The spirit medium Eighth Master Chang, however, didn’t show a hint of joy.

“Sigh, no matter how fierce he is, it’s only a temporary burst.”

“Once the fetal qi completely dissipates in a moment, he’ll just be an ordinary infant!”

Things played out exactly as Eighth Master Chang predicted.

A quarter of an hour later, the Female Corpse, who had been chasing and biting the ghosts, suddenly collapsed.

Covered in foul-smelling cadaveric fluid, the little Doll burst out from the abdomen with a whoosh and flew into Old Li’s arms.

He looked up at him and giggled.

Old Li looked on helplessly, wrapping the Doll tightly in his padded cotton coat.

“Just what kind of monster is this child…”

The shaken ghosts began to close in again when they saw this.

However, after what had just happened, they were noticeably more cautious.

It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say they were acting timid.

Just as Old Li and the others reached the end of their rope, the Red-Dressed Female Ghost came floating slowly toward them, carrying a sedan chair.

The surrounding malevolent spirits immediately cleared a path, crouching on either side while trembling in fear.

The harsh, grating voice of Hemp-clad Grandmother drifted out from the sedan.

“This Immortal Spirit hasn’t lifted a finger to bully you.”

“When you reach the King of Hell, you can’t go complaining about me!”

“Old Eighth of the Chang Family, and you, boy holding your own head-you can come over to Grandmother’s side.”

“Out of respect for the Chang Family Eldest, Grandmother will guarantee your safety.”

Hearing this, Eighth Master Chang immediately revealed his true form.

He was a giant green snake, over ten meters long.

At this moment, he didn’t possess a shred of dignity. Like a common worm, he obediently coiled himself around the carrying pole of the sedan chair.

Chang Ba said with a fawning expression, “Little Eighth thanks Grandmother.”

The Beheaded Ghost, who had regained his senses, was much more stubborn than Chang Ba.

“I appreciate Grandmother’s kindness!”

“But as I said, I’ve long considered this place my home. Even if my soul is scattered to the winds, I will protect it!”

Hemp-clad Grandmother let out a cackling laugh as the sedan chair rapidly retreated.

The surrounding malevolent spirits immediately swarmed forward.

“If you seek your own death, Grandmother won’t stop you.”

“It’s just a pity for all those years of cultivation you’ve accumulated.”

With Chang Ba gone, Deaf Granny reverted to her frail, aged appearance.

She whispered to Old Li, “Old Li, if I said we should hand the child over to these filthy things in exchange for our lives, you definitely wouldn’t agree, right?!”

Old Li held his blade across his chest, his eyes surging with murderous intent.

“Absolutely not. Not unless I’m dead!”

Deaf Granny looked like she had expected as much.

“Sigh, this old woman has really been dragged down by you!”

“When we’re about to die in a moment, eat this!”

As Deaf Granny spoke, she snapped a pitch-black bone in half and shoved one part into Old Li’s hand.

Old Li was stunned and asked softly, “What is this?”

A cold light flickered in Deaf Granny’s eyes.

“Hehe, a Millennium Wraith Bone!”

“If we eat this before we die, we can turn into fierce ghosts right on the spot!”

“With our skills, we’ll be far more vicious than this pack of idiots once we’re ghosts!”

“We’ll kill them all. First, for revenge; second, to save my Sanwa and his wife.”

Old Li, who had been somewhat hesitant, immediately nodded in agreement upon hearing that they could save Wang San and his wife.

“Fine. As long as we can save the children, I’ll do anything!”
