Chapter 11

Old Li was too busy laughing to notice that while Hua Jiunan was stumbling and falling, he had gathered a great deal of medicinal herbs.

It wasn’t until the boy had so many herbs that his small hands couldn’t hold them all and he asked Old Li for help that the Old Master finally realized what was happening.

As a veteran of a hundred battles, Old Li was no stranger to medicinal herbs.

After all, during those difficult years of war, many revolutionary soldiers had survived thanks to herbal medicine.

Yet, of the herbs in Hua Jiunan’s hands, Old Li actually only recognized a few.

“Xiao Jiu, what are you doing with these?”

Hua Jiunan was only five years old at the time, and his voice was still high and childish:

“I’m going to cure Third Uncle.”

“Once Third Uncle is better, he can take me to catch toads!”

Old Li was skeptical but hurried back to the village. After all, in his heart, Hua Jiunan was a rather miraculous existence.

When Old Li showed the herbs to the town doctor, the doctor was shocked!

“This… Old man, did you gather these?”

To avoid exposing the little fellow’s secret, Old Li could only bite the bullet and admit it.

“Yes, this old man learned a bit of the basics back in the day.”

“I just don’t know if these medicines are useful against the plague.”

The doctor was very excited and said loudly:

“Useful? Of course they’re useful!”

“How did I not think of using Minor Bupleurum Decoction!”

“Bupleurum, Scutellaria, Amomum, Licorice, Pinellia, Dichroa-these are the primary ingredients for Minor Bupleurum Decoction!”

“Old man, your medical skills are much higher than mine!”

Old Li felt guilty being praised and blushed, not knowing how to respond.

After the villagers took the decoction, they indeed all recovered. Once everyone learned what had happened, Old Li’s prestige in the village grew even higher.

Whenever someone had a headache or a fever, they would seek out Old Li for treatment.

Of course, every time he saw a patient, he would bring Hua Jiunan along with him.

Then the two of them would go into the mountains together to gather herbs.

After dinner, Hua Jiunan sat on Wang San’s lap, tugging at his beard.

Children, especially five or six-year-old boys, can’t stay still for a second.

Even a dog would be annoyed by such behavior.

Despite the pain, Wang San didn’t dodge. He simply made a long face and pleaded for help:

“Mother, aren’t you going to do something? Xiao Jiu is bullying me again!”

Granny Li looked at them, her face full of affection.

“Little Jiunan is truly extraordinary. To think he saved the whole village at such a young age!”

Old Li nodded repeatedly. “Isn’t that the truth!”

“I haven’t seen anyone teaching him. Could it be that this talent was brought from the womb?!”

The two elders couldn’t figure it out, so they simply stopped thinking about it.

In any case, having many skills is never a burden, let alone the ability to heal and save people.

This was a good deed that would accumulate hidden merit!

Deaf Granny picked up Hua Jiunan from Wang San’s lap and kissed her precious darling for a good while.

Then the little fellow suddenly spoke up:

“Grandma, today I saw a sister laughing in the well.”

Deaf Granny was startled upon hearing this. Could it be filthy things?

But Jiunan had already had his skin changed; he shouldn’t be able to see such things anymore.

Deaf Granny had forgotten, however, that the dragon skin did not cover Hua Jiunan’s eyes.

“Xiao Jiu, tell Grandma, which well did you see her in?”

“It’s the well in front of Old Fourth Tian’s house.”

“That sister even flew out and lay on Third Uncle’s back to lick his neck.”

Upon hearing this, Brother Wang San shuddered violently.

“Holy mother of-!”

“Mother, I did take Xiao Jiu to Old Fourth Tian’s house today.”

“I was wondering why I kept getting chills after entering the gate!”

“Xiao Jiu, look again. Is that thing still on my back?”

Hua Jiunan didn’t even look up, occupied with crawling around on the kang.

“She flew back into the well long ago.”

“She flew away when you were farting non-stop.”

Brother Wang San’s face turned red instantly.

“I ate too many fried soybeans this morning…”

Deaf Granny was in no mood to listen to their nonsense. She put on her cotton coat and headed outside.

“No, I can’t rest easy. I have to go take a look.”

Old Li stood up to follow. “I’ll go with you.”

“Wait for me to get my big knife.”

Deaf Granny motioned for him not to.

“Old Li, you stay home and watch the children. I’ll ask Eighth Master to accompany me.”

“It’s just wandering ghosts; this old woman can handle it.”

Old Li knew Deaf Granny’s capabilities, so he didn’t insist.

An hour later, Deaf Granny returned, carrying the chill of the night with her.

When Old Li asked about the situation, Deaf Granny slowly shook her head.

“There was no yin energy, and I didn’t see any filthy things.”

“The child must have been mistaken.”

Old Li felt relieved.

“He’s just a kid; it’s normal to see things wrong.”

“If everything’s fine, let’s all get some sleep. I’m heading back.”

“I need to get up early tomorrow to see if I can catch a few pheasants to nourish Wang San’s wife.”

By this time, Wang San’s Wife was pregnant, so she had naturally become the focus of their care.

Taking advantage of the moment when no one was looking, Wang San scooped up Hua Jiunan and tickled him.

“You little brat, how dare you scare me! I’m going to teach you a lesson today!”

Hua Jiunan’s giggles filled the small room.
