Chapter 5
Chapter 5
Song Huai pursued me for a long time back then. The reason I finally agreed to be with him was because of Gungun.
My parents divorced when I was very young, and it was my grandmother who raised me. When she passed away a few years ago, she left Gungun to me, saying he would stay by my side in her stead.
One night, I was out walking the dog when Gungun went missing in the blink of an eye.
I searched nearly every inch of the park until I finally collapsed on the ground, exhausted, sobbing into my knees in despair.
The person who eventually helped me find Gungun was Song Huai.
At the time, he was holding the puppy and panting for breath, yet he spoke with casual nonchalance.
“I saw a man carrying Gungun away while I was out for a run. He was walking very fast-probably a dog thief.”
I felt both lucky and terrified; the tears wouldn’t stop falling.
“Don’t cry.” Song Huai was usually quite a neat freak, but he didn’t seem to care as he sat down beside me on the concrete.
He remained silent for a long while before letting out a soft sigh. “When you cry, I just don’t know what to do with myself.”
The moonlight illuminated his profile as he looked at me, his gaze tender and sincere.
“Gungun will always be by your side. And so will I.”
We started dating after that day.
We were together for three years, and Song Huai treated me very well. We did everything couples do.
It wasn’t until two months ago, after I accepted Song Huai’s proposal, that his college sweetheart, Chen Jia, suddenly reappeared.
In the beginning, I wasn’t without my worries.
To put my mind at ease, Song Huai would report to me whenever Chen Jia called or came to his office to see him. He worked hard to show me through his actions that things between them were truly in the past.
But now, seeing them kiss and seeing that he had replaced Gungun’s photo, I finally realized that Song Huai had never forgotten her.
I knew I shouldn’t cry, but my tears fell uncontrollably, one by one, until I was sobbing so hard I couldn’t catch my breath, my whole body trembling.
Song Huai was silent for a long time before he suddenly spoke. “You probably don’t realize this, but seeing you cry like this… I don’t feel anything at all.”
His tone was flat, a calm statement of the fact that he no longer loved me.
In that moment, my world came crashing down.

The Text That Cancelled My Wedding
I picked up my boyfriend’s phone by mistake, only to see a message his ex had just sent: “I forgot to take the morning-after pill that night.”
Those few short words left me...
