I turned on the faucet and splashed water over my face, the bone-chilling cold coursing through my entire body.

Suddenly, the phone vibrated. A message from Chen Jia popped up, but I hadn’t saved her contact name.

I froze for a few seconds before realizing that in my haste to leave, I had grabbed Song Huai’s phone by mistake.

By the time I registered what was happening, I had already instinctively opened the chat between Song Huai and Chen Jia.

Chen Jia had sent a single sentence: “I forgot to take the morning-after pill that night.”

Those few short words left me feeling cold to the core.

So, while I was running myself ragged handling all the trivial details of our wedding preparations, they were sleeping together?

The day before yesterday, I had gone straight from work to the wedding venue without even stopping for dinner. I stayed late to handle arrangements, only for my gastritis to flare up suddenly.

Song Huai had told me he was working overtime at the office. I called him over a dozen times, but I couldn’t get through.

Enduring the piercing pain, I took a taxi to the hospital alone at three in the morning.
