As if afraid I wouldn’t believe her, Chen Jia suddenly grabbed my wrist, looking like she wanted to say more, but I shook her off with a sharp shove.
She stumbled back a few steps, and as if by design, fell right into Song Huai’s outstretched arms.
It was raining outside, and because I was damp from the rain, my feet slipped. I slammed hard into the table beside me.
My phone hit the floor, sliding several meters away.
The sound wasn’t particularly loud, yet it caused the entire room to fall silent instantly.
Someone picked up my phone and silently placed it on the table.
Only then did Song Huai seem to finally snap out of it. He hurried over to help me up.
I found it almost laughable. Bracing myself, I forced myself to stand and pulled away from his touch.
Taking a deep breath, I stared at him and asked, “Song Huai, if I told you that she just sent me a provocative text saying-”
“Zhou Shi, it was just a game,” Song Huai interrupted.
His tone was as calm as ever, but he made no effort to hide the impatience flickering in his expression.
I froze.
The burning sensation in my ankle finally reached my brain, gradually spreading through every nerve.
Only now did I feel the belated sting of pain and humiliation.
Unable to stay a moment longer, I grabbed my phone and bolted toward the restroom.
