Chapter 14
He looked completely baffled by my questions, but still did his best to soothe me.
Of course he was a psychologist.
I shouted, “Tell me right now-how did you get your cruise ticket?”
His lips trembled twice before he managed, “My cruise ticket… came from a promotional event a partner company did with our clinic.”
“They said there was one spot on a luxury cruise. After they listed all the conditions, only I qualified.”
I went numb, mind blank, stumbling backward. “How is that possible?”
I ran, not caring about anything, straight up to a woman who was reading a book and yelled in her face, “How did you get your cruise ticket?”
The woman was poised and elegant, wearing black-framed glasses, her voice soft and gentle.
My crazed behavior clearly scared her. She answered in a shaky voice, “Our editorial department received a prize slot, and I-”
I couldn’t listen anymore.
Something was seriously wrong.
On this giant luxury liner, not only was there not a single real rich person, but none of us had actually bought our own ticket.
If the cruise line itself were running some kind of promotion, that wouldn’t be impossible.
But if that were the case, an official promotion would be heavily advertised, not handled like this, with one person tied to one specific event.
Especially Xiao Chen. She’d gotten her ticket by scanning a code on a delivery package. That was even weirder.
Without another word, I bolted for Xiao Chen’s door and pounded on it like I was going to break it down.
Xiao Chen was dieting and didn’t eat dinner, so at this hour she definitely had to be in her room.
I knocked for ages before she finally came out-but not from the door I was hitting.
She walked out of Xiao Wang’s room.
When she saw me, she snapped, “What are you doing back here? Didn’t you storm off after giving me that attitude?”
She was tidying her messy hair as she warned me, “That hottie isn’t yours alone. I also-”
Before she could finish, I was shaking all over as I begged her to open her door. I had made a huge discovery I needed to tell her.
Xiao Chen was meticulous and sharp, far more reliable than that brainless muscle-head Guo Bin.
In a situation like this, she was the only one I could go to for analysis.
I dumped everything I’d uncovered today on her in one breath: Xiao Wang’s pig-butchering scam, Old Li and his wife, the real estate agent, the psychologist, the female editor…
And me and Guo Bin.
Every single one of us had gotten our ticket as a freebie.
Even Xiao Chen was visibly rattled.
While calming me down, she said, “If that’s how it is, then tell me-what’s the purpose of the people who lured us onto this cruise?”
“If their intentions are good, then we don’t have to be afraid.”
“If they’re bad, then we’d better start thinking this through.”
“Who have we offended?”
