Chapter 12
Old Li and I shook hands and made peace.
He gave me an embarrassed grin. “My wife, she’s been like that her whole life. Please don’t hold it against her.”
“A good wife means fewer troubles for her husband. You really should talk to her more often.”
I actually found myself lecturing an old man.
“Ah, to tell you the truth,” Old Li scratched his head helplessly, “I’ve been a teacher my whole life, taught countless students, and my one weakness is still my own wife. I can’t do a thing with her.”
“So that means you two used your pensions to buy cruise tickets? These tickets aren’t cheap. They’re like eight hundred thousand yuan for the pair.” I couldn’t help asking.
Old Li’s face relaxed into a light smile. “Of course not. How could our pensions afford cruise tickets here?”
“Me, I’m here because I got an award as an outstanding retired teacher-”
He’d barely gotten the words out when a plump figure came charging over from a distance, cursing as she ran.
It was Old Li’s wife.
Old Li hurriedly motioned for me to leave through the other side of the cabin; he would handle her himself.
I slipped out the door and sighed again and again. That poor old teacher had married a veritable shrew.
The network signal was terrible, and for the moment I couldn’t think of anyone to hang out with.
Guo Bin was lost in the casino, Xiao Chen and I had parted on bad terms, and Xiao Wang had become a thorn in my heart.
In the end, I decided to hit the gym.
A Sea Queen has to keep her figure.
I’d barely been on the treadmill for a few minutes when a man came over to hit on me.
“Your figure’s already this amazing, and you’re still working out.”
He stood beside the treadmill, smiling at me. His looks and his clothes were neither my style nor my type.
If anything, he looked a bit cheap.
He didn’t dress like someone who belonged on this cruise.
But then I thought maybe he was some rich guy deliberately dressing down, just to find a girl who wasn’t after his money.
So I gave him my flawless Sea Queen smile and started chatting with him.
We talked for quite a while. When he asked if we could have dinner together, I agreed.
During the meal he was endlessly attentive and full of compliments, and I couldn’t help getting a little carried away.
By the end, though, he said something I would never have expected.
He asked, “Miss Wu, do you have any plans to buy property in A City?”
A City was the city the cruise had departed from.
Then he slid a business card over to me. Printed right across the middle were the words: “Real Estate Agent.”
I nearly bit my tongue off in shock. He was a real estate broker.
He spent four hundred thousand on a cruise ticket just to take a vacation and sell apartments on board?
I voiced my confusion, and he laughed.
“How would I have four hundred thousand to spend on a vacation? These cruise tickets were a reward from my boss. My boss said I’m incredibly lucky-I was rated an ‘Outstanding Real Estate Agent’ by some website-hey, Miss Wu, where are you going-“
