Chapter 6
Chapter 6
I messily wiped away my tears and fled the moment the light turned green.
I didn’t dare let Liang Jingnian see me.
I was also terrified that he would try to take my child away.
Clutching my son’s hand, I walked forward stubbornly, never once looking back.
It wasn’t until I reached the corner of an alleyway that I could no longer hold back my tears.
My chest felt tight, and it felt as if all the strength had been drained from my body.
Unable to keep myself upright, I crouched down and pulled my child into a tight embrace.
The emotions I had buried deep in my heart clawed their way out. Love and hate intertwined, making it hard to breathe.
Large tears fell one after another.
It was a sadness I couldn’t put into words.
“Don’t cry, Mommy.”
“I’m right here with you. I won’t run away.”
He used his small hands to gently wipe the tear stains from my face.
After a long while, I stopped crying and ruffled his hair.
“Can Mommy have a bite of your chicken cutlet?”
He Chen obediently handed it to me. It was covered in a thick layer of chili powder.
The plastic bag was wrapped in layer upon layer of napkins. He carefully unwrapped it and held it to my lips.
My lips trembled as I took a bite. I fought to suppress the burning sensation churning in my stomach, my tears scalding hot.
I didn’t dare cry in front of the child.
I quickly stood up and took his hand to lead him home. “Are you hungry?”
“What do you want to eat? Mommy will cook for you when we get home.”
He Chen looked up at me, his small hand gripping my fingers. It felt warm.
“Mommy, today is your birthday.”
Another year survived.
It really hadn’t been easy.
I sniffled, my nose stinging, and suddenly let out a laugh.
To hell with terminal illness. To hell with not having long to live.
I still managed to live through another year, didn’t I?
“Let’s go! Mommy’s going to make you something delicious at home!”
