Chapter 5
Chapter 5
Liang Jingnian looked up at me, his gaze deep and inscrutable.
His Adam’s apple bobbed as his dark eyes locked onto mine, carrying a heavy sense of threat. “He Xi, I’m saying this one last time: she isn’t.”
Oh, how he loved their child.
He couldn’t even bring himself to use that vicious, filthy word to deny it.
I couldn’t take it anymore. I wrenched my hand from his grip, my eyes burning with pure hatred. “A child born from an affair while you’re still married-if that’s not a bastard, what is?”
Liang Jingnian’s jaw tightened, and he remained silent for a long time.
He was clearly struggling to suppress his emotions.
“He Xi,” he called out, his voice heavy and sodden, making it hard to breathe. “What’s between us has nothing to do with the child.”
“You can hate me, but you can’t hate the child.”
Why did it have nothing to do with it?
Why couldn’t I hate their child?
On what grounds?
The questions choked me, sticking in my throat. I clenched my fists tight, but the tears spilled over anyway.
I forced myself to turn away, refusing to let him see me cry.
The atmosphere was at a standstill.
I inhaled the cold air, trying to numb the ache in my heart.
As I looked up, I saw my son standing across the street at the traffic light, holding a piece of fried chicken larger than his face.
He was standing there quietly.
His little face was flushed red from the cold.
I didn’t know how long he had been waiting.
Liang Jingnian saw the boy, too.
As I started to walk away, he called out to me, his voice raspy. “He Xi, how do you explain the boy?”
What was there to explain?
Did he tell me when he was busy having a child with another woman?
I glared at him, my eyes bloodshot, enunciating every single word: “Liang Jingnian, I gave birth to this child. He has nothing to do with you.”
“Don’t you dare come into our lives.”
“A person like you deserves to die alone.”
