Chapter 3

When Lin Yuezhou came in holding the pink diamond necklace, I suddenly remembered that I had left it by my side, but hadn’t bothered with it.

In the past, whenever he gave me a gift, I would put it on right away, take a few photos, and post them on my Moments to commemorate it.

But an expired gift had long lost that sense of anticipation and surprise.

He lay down beside me, his tone softening slightly: “Should I put it on for you?”

I shook my head. “No, it’s inconvenient to wear it at work.”

Seeing that I still wouldn’t go along with him, Lin Yuezhou lost his patience and threw the necklace aside:

“Li Li, is this really necessary? Are you still mad about last time?”

“Didn’t I explain it to you? We just had a gathering and drank too much, so we slept there and didn’t come back. Besides, the other three guys were all there. What could possibly happen between me and Jiaojiao?”

If he hadn’t brought it up, I might have forgotten how foolish I’d been before.

Last time, he had a get-together with a few college friends and didn’t come home all night.

I was so anxious I didn’t sleep at all, trying to contact him everywhere.

In the end, I had to search every room at his usual club before I finally found him.

The moment I walked in, I saw Song Jiaojiao asleep in his arms.

At the time, I didn’t care that there were other people present-I had a huge fight with him.

Lin Yuezhou brushed it off, saying he’d just drunk too much.

His buddies tried to help: “Yeah, Jiaojiao’s been our friend for years. We all treat her like one of the guys. It’s pure friendship, absolutely.”

But during their gatherings, I’d stood outside the private room more than once and heard them teasing:

“You two are still so in sync! Why not just get back together?”

I went home crying.

At first, Lin Yuezhou would try to comfort me: “I really only see her as a friend, and nothing happened anyway.”

Later, he grew impatient and snapped: “If there was something between me and her, would you even be here now? Can you stop making a big deal out of nothing?”

We fell into a cold war.

Until our seventh anniversary, when I thought he was finally reaching out to make peace-only to realize it was the last straw that broke the camel’s back.

Coming back to my senses, I looked at Lin Yuezhou’s irritated face and said calmly, “You’re overthinking it.”

Then I lowered my head and continued looking at my phone.

Lin Yuezhou was stunned, as if he hadn’t expected to hear his usual words coming from me:

“You really… aren’t angry?”

He frowned at me, seemingly in disbelief.

“Why would I be angry?” I looked up and asked blandly.

Lin Yuezhou was at a loss for words, his expression suddenly turning ugly. He got up angrily and left with a dark face, tossing out, “I’m sleeping in the guest room tonight.”

I didn’t understand.

Not throwing a tantrum, not getting jealous, not digging for answers.

Isn’t this exactly what he wanted?
