Chapter 7

Mu Qingyang flicked his sleeves and stormed off.

Eldest Senior Sister’s eyes grew red, and she pressed her lips together tightly, not saying another word. She stared in the direction Mu Qingyang had left, her face a mask of utter despair.

In my tens of thousands of years of cultivation, I’ve seen countless honest souls like Eldest Senior Sister.

They are clearly full of grievances, yet they can’t find the words to explain why.

Ultimately, it’s because they are too honest-their minds are simple, unable to fathom the complexity of human hearts or untangle the logic of it all. Her intuition told her something was wrong, but she couldn’t pinpoint exactly what she was losing, making it easy for her to fall into a moral trap.

I stepped forward and took her hand.

Despite being a cultivator nearly at the Golden Core stage, her fingers were icy cold and her face was pale, as if all her strength had been drained away.

I used my spiritual power to warm her hand and asked softly, “Eldest Senior Sister, what do you even like about him? What’s so good about Mu Qingyang?”

Eldest Senior Sister’s eyes were rimmed with red, but she tried her best to keep the tears from falling.

Since I had already seen her at her most awkward moment, she stopped trying to hide it and openly shared her past with Mu Qingyang.

My inner gossip-monger burned with curiosity. Fubao’s eyes widened, and neither of us dared to miss a single word, fearing we’d lose the thread of the plot.

She and Mu Qingyang came from two different cultivation clans and could be considered childhood sweethearts.

The bond they shared growing up together went without saying.

The two families intended to form a marriage alliance. When she and Mu Qingyang met back then, he was still a spirited young genius. She had stated plainly that if Mu Qingyang was unwilling, she wouldn’t force the matter.

But Mu Qingyang was willing. He had secretly taken her hand and told her he was very much in favor of it-that he had even been waiting for that day for a long time.

It was a mutually agreeable alliance with many benefits. Not only would it bring the two cultivation clans closer, but it would also strengthen the ties between the Bixiao Sect and the Guiyuan Sect.

It was a win-win-win situation for all three parties.

The only problem was that Mu Qingyang’s affection for her extended to her Little Junior Sister. He began treating the girl better and better, to the point where it made Eldest Senior Sister feel uncomfortable.

She often reflected on herself: Was she overthinking things? Her fiancé was showing care for her junior sister; she should be happy. He cared for Little Junior Sister because of her-after all, without her, Mu Qingyang wouldn’t even know the girl.

Yet she often felt it shouldn’t be this way. She was his fiancée; why should he let her suffer grievances for the sake of her junior sister?

Just like last time-it wasn’t that she was unwilling to spend money on Little Junior Sister, but the feeling of being forced to pay was unpleasant.

“Second Junior Sister, I’ve actually been very troubled lately. He is always comparing me to Little Junior Sister. I know it isn’t her fault, yet I still feel jealous of her. I hate myself for being like this. I feel like I shouldn’t be this way, but I’m gradually losing control. Sometimes I wonder if everything would be better if Little Junior Sister wasn’t around… Am I being despicable?”

She looked at me with a dazed expression, her eyes hiding a deep sense of self-loathing.

It was truly heartbreaking.

She was my noble, brilliant Eldest Senior Sister, a Prodigy envied by all, yet because of love, she had become this self-deprecating shadow of herself.

Love truly makes people unrecognizable.

Thank goodness I’ve been single for ten thousand years.

I said gently, “Eldest Senior Sister, wait for me a moment. I’m going to go feed the chickens, then I’ll answer your question.”
