Chapter 4

Over the next few months, I wandered aimlessly through the Secret Realm, crossing paths with several groups of cultivators who were busy killing and looting for treasures.

Fubao and I quietly avoided them, wanting no part of the trouble.

Whenever I encountered Bixiao Sect disciples being bullied, I’d lend a hand from the shadows before slipping away unnoticed.

In the final few days, I ran into Eldest Senior Sister, Little Junior Sister, Mu Qingyang, and many of my other Senior and Junior Brothers.

Eldest Senior Sister’s face was like frost; she looked to be in a foul mood.

Little Junior Sister’s face was deathly pale, her shoulder wrapped in bandages.

The fellow disciples were all chattering at once, saying they needed to go pick a Seven-Star Lingzhi to neutralize the poison in Little Junior Sister’s system.

However, the Seven-Star Lingzhi was far away, and the journey was treacherous. If they went to harvest it, they might not make it back to the Secret Realm’s exit in time. They would be trapped inside until the next time the realm opened.

Little Junior Sister repeatedly refused. “No, it’s too dangerous. I don’t want everyone to risk their lives for me.”

Unable to decide, the group turned to Eldest Senior Sister.

Eldest Senior Sister took a deep breath and stepped forward.

“I’ll go.”

Mu Qingyang caught her arm. “I should be the one to go. I’ll take Lingyun with me, otherwise we won’t make it back in time.”

He scooped Little Junior Sister up in his arms, preparing to leave.

I let out a long sigh.

Perhaps this was the power of destiny. We had avoided the Illusion Spirit Pearl, but we couldn’t avoid Little Junior Sister being poisoned.

I suspected that if Mu Qingyang and Little Junior Sister really went to get that Seven-Star Lingzhi, they would probably be trapped in the Secret Realm for decades. By the time the realm opened again, their children would likely have reached Foundation Establishment already.

Fate is unpredictable, but money can pave any road.

I tossed a Seven-Star Lingzhi, hitting Mu Qingyang right on the head, then took Fubao and drifted away.

Fubao barked, “Woof, woof?”

“Do good deeds anonymously to avoid the hassle of people thanking you over and over,” I replied. “What if they proactively come to us for help next time? Do we help or not? Since we know it might bring trouble, it’s better to just not let them know. Don’t you think?”

Fubao barked again, “Woof, woof.”

I patted his head. “You agree. Let’s go then~”

Not long after, the Secret Realm opened, and the members of the Bixiao Sect emerged one after another.

Eldest Senior Sister looked cold and indifferent, while Little Junior Sister’s face was filled with the relief of having survived a disaster. The other disciples crowded around her, chattering away. Little Junior Sister smiled, making sure everyone felt heard, though her eyes occasionally drifted toward Eldest Senior Sister, as if she wanted to say something but hesitated.

Mu Qingyang, his expression grim, grabbed Eldest Senior Sister’s arm and spoke to her incessantly.

Eldest Senior Sister’s face grew paler by the second, her eyes filled with deep grievance and disappointment.

I hesitated for a moment but ultimately walked away with Fubao in my arms.

This was the romance between Mu Qingyang and Eldest Senior Sister; an outsider couldn’t help them navigate their relationship.

You only realize how much the bitterness of love clears the mind after you’ve tasted it yourself.

Upon returning to the Sect, everyone planned to go celebrate. I declined with a smile, saying I wanted to go check on my chickens and ducks. The others gave a small laugh but didn’t try to make me stay.

That was just how the Second Senior Sister of the Sect was: unremarkable, boring, and insignificant. It didn’t matter whether I went or not.

Besides, I really did care more about my chickens, ducks, and vegetables.
