Chapter 3
Before long, the Mitian Secret Realm opened.
In my previous life, it was during this expedition into the Secret Realm that a permanent rift formed between Eldest Senior Sister and Little Junior Sister.
Mu Qingyang and Little Junior Sister fell into an illusion together, where they lived through three lifetimes and became husband and wife in each. After emerging from the illusion, they had to face a sobering reality:
Mu Qingyang was Eldest Senior Sister’s fiancé. They had a formal marriage contract, meaning Little Junior Sister could only ever be the Little Junior Sister.
The emotions of three people became a crowded, tangled mess. They constantly bumped into one another until they became three walking contradictions.
This time, as I stood at the entrance of the Secret Realm, I looked at Fubao.
“Eldest Senior Sister and Little Junior Sister are both good people. We can’t just watch them turn into enemies, right?”
“Mu Qingyang once gave you a Qi Gathering Pill and didn’t treat you like an ordinary dog. We have to repay that favor too, don’t we?”
Fubao’s dark eyes shone like two bright black gems as he nodded vigorously.
“Woof! Woof!”
“Good. Then let’s head out.”
I entered the Secret Realm to do two things.
The first was to harvest Spirit Grass.
For a Great Ascension Ancestor, gathering herbs in a Secret Realm was as easy as pie!
The second was to find the Mirage Beast.
It was an old clam hidden in the water that loved to open its shell to reveal the Illusion Spirit Pearl inside, luring people to try and take it. Any cultivator who drew near would fall into an illusion.
Because of this, I stood far away and cast a net.
The Mirage Beast zipped away instantly.
I cast another net.
It zipped away again.
I kept casting, and it kept zipping, even letting out a sinister cackle. “Foolish human!”
Fubao was furious. “Woof woof woof!”
I gave a light snort. “Heh.”
Soon enough, it slammed into a barrier I had set up. My net flew out once more, trapping it from above.
The Mirage Beast: “…”
“What do you want?” it asked in a dark tone.
I soothed it, “Don’t misunderstand. I just want to help you move to a new home.”
They say that where there is a poison, the antidote is within three steps. For a Demon Beast, there was bound to be another beast nearby that could suppress its illusions.
I flew to an unfamiliar stretch of water, and the Mirage Beast’s panic was visible to the naked eye.
“I’ll give you the Illusion Spirit Pearl! Just let me go!!!”
“I’m not interested in your body.”
I let go. Accompanied by a string of muffled curses and a loud splash as it hit the water, the world finally became peaceful.
Fubao covered his ears, looking quite aggrieved. Having heard an earful of profanity, he felt like his soul had been soiled.
A massive wave surged from the water. I scooped up Fubao and flew off at top speed. A water whip lashed heavily across the spot where I had just been standing, followed by a barrage of water arrows in pursuit.
I dodged left and right, flew to the shore, and ducked into the forest, yet I still ended up drenched.
I picked up Fubao and used him to wipe my hair, sighing. “The favor is repaid. I must never take such a risk again; it really doesn’t fit the principles of our Way of Lying Low.”
Fubao looked at himself, then looked at me.
He bared his teeth, his face a mask of disbelief.
“Woof woof woof woof, woof woof…”
I pinched his little snout and coaxed, “Alright, alright, I get it. I promise I won’t use you as a towel next time. It’s just that your fur is the softest.”
Fubao paused for a moment, then wagged his tail and smiled.
Me: “…”
Silly dog!
He’s so easy to trick. It’s a good thing he has a master like me; he’s truly lucky.
